Textures for Triangles 4 or 5 sided

This is a problem regardless of the countless ways I have tried, I still cannot work out the texture map for a triangular prim.

For example, a roof corner, by shearing and tapering the prim you can get a perfect roof corner, to texture this with say with normal roof tiles is so far not an option. What I have found is that one side is normal, another side is offset vertical 22.5 degress and horizontally at zero degrees, and the other sides I have no idea.

All though I have now resulted to an alternate option which can cost me prims in the end, I am still intrigued as to whether or not there is a valid answer..........

Two words: Planar Mapping

That's what it's for.

Following the other threads I knew an answer from yourself *Chosen" would arrive and quickly it did.

Now, I just tried that, created a prim, selected texture then changed from default to planar and then textured it.

I noticed that depending on the texture and side of prim, the angles might need to be changed apart from that it works fine, but there may be one downfall, and that is the texture repeats, it repeats much higher than default and there is not much room to make the texture bigger depending on the size the texture was created.

But, it works brilliantly and will save me endless prims, I shall just have to watch the textures that I design in terms of size. Also, for anyone else trying this at home, the texture must be 100% seamless.

Thanks for your help Chosen, in not so many words to... very simple and very effective.

LOL, I don't know what "Planar Mapping" is or means, but it solved my problems!

Thank you!

You can independently adjust the texture repeat after applying planar mapping.

How did this thread all of a sudden reappear?

Its over a year old and that was my learning days using the inworld tools.

Thanks for the replies I hope it might be useful for others browsing the forums for answers.

Well, I guess the only appropriate answer is this:

One word: necroposting. That's what it's for. :D

Yeah, it's pretty pointless to dig up a ancient thread, just to comment on what someone didn't quite understand a year or more ago, but for whatever reason, people do it sometimes. As you said, Larrie, hopefully it will benefit someone.

Rather than post a question that "probably" had been asked many times before,
I "dug up" this old thread by doing a search when I could not figure out how to get the texture on a triangle to line up properly with the same texture on the cube next to it.
Search works!

Thanks again.
