It's a rather arduous process, at least from my perspective. I took a high quality photo of myself, scanned it, and then broke the aggregate image into separate components/layers so that I could correctly match the layout positioning of the face template. In the end, I wound up setting alphas around the outer areas of the face, leaving only the eyes, nose and mouth exposed. Blending the skin pigmentation with the avatar skin color setting was a pain, but after several tries, I finally got it to blend (biggest problem was a ghost alpha on the neck -- make sure your color layer extends beyond the boundaries of your alphas).

Others recommend that you texture the entire face template, and I may try that approach for my next "upgrade."

Good luck!

sounds like fun. Just a question - Do y'all touch yourselves up after you make a texture of yourself? I know if I made me I wouldn't be able to leave anything out, I'd need the knarly childhood bike scars and blemishes and such. But I would be tempted to touch myself up a little.

I always joke someone should make a womans skin with stretch marks, a c-section scar, and crusty nipples. I would so buy it for my drag AV lol.

Shhhh! Don't tell our secrets, Barnesworth! :p

Actually, in the case of my avatar's facial skin, I used a professional portrait photographers rendition of yours truly, so no re-touching was necessary. Otherwise, my avie would have deep frown lines on his forehead. LOL
