to the op, its ok it happens all the time, just trying to point you into better areas so you can find what you need

but what really burns my cookies, is in every content creation forum whenever a "i need this" question is presented, and someone states the simple fact that they are in a help fourm not a classifieds add theres ALWAYS someone swooping down like a vulture on roadkill to hand out their card and make a sales pitch

totally undermining the entire effort, and making whoever stated the facts seem like a forum dictator "lets all shun the all mighty self appointed forum police" ect

and dont start with the "im just trying to be helpful" garb, your just trying to make a sale before the person has a chance to actually see and compare the competition

Difference is, since I've been in SL (nearly 3 years) I think I've made somewhere near $L100. But I do make textures.

Someone needs a time out and a Mydol. Relax... honest mistake... dont have a cow.

Heaven knows me and Osgeld have had our head banging together about things (mostly in the tech section of the forums) but, he's (yeah he is a he.....so the Mydol may not be the best medicine) a good guy. I understand exactly what he was saying..........this is not the best place to put such a topic. Someone pointed that out...........and quite rightly so. Then immediately we get a post openly tauting their personal business in SL.

I call it opportunism..............and I agree with Osgeld.

The OP requested something, I answered to it, Now I'm sorry you don't agree with it but I take offence to being called a vulture.

The OP may have posted in the wrong section, But this is also a forum dedicated to help so maybe its time certain people get down off their high horses and actually help instead of dictate to the rest of us what we can and can't do.

As a member of these forums for a couple years I have seen many new residents come here asking for help only to be told to go elsewhere. It doesn't happen all of the time but it does happen. Or they are given criticism and rude answers. So if you all aren't going to help people then maybe its time you all went elsewhere yourselves and let those that want to help, help.

Natalie, when you look at it up close and short-term, you may well think you're being helpful by answering questions in the wrong places, but I'd encourage you to take a step back and consider the larger issues. The greater good can only be achieve by preserving the integrity of the forums, so that as many people as possible can benefit. That means, among other things, keeping the forums organized. When you answer misplaced questions, you encourage disregard for categorization, which ultimately serves to lessen forum usability for everyone. I've seen many a good forum utterly destroyed by such behavior, which is why I'm usually one of the first to try to steer people to the right places when they post in the wrong ones. It's absolutely imperative that we all do that.

If you really want to be helpful, then when you see a post that's out of place, kindly tell the author where it properly belongs. If you want to go one step further, you can say something to the effect of "Good question, but unfortunately you posted it in the wrong forum. Head on over to _____, where this belongs, ask there, and I'll be happy to answer there. Sorry I can't answer here, but it's super important to keep the forums organized. I'm sure you understand." I've done that sort of thing many, many times, and it works just great.

Gee..... I didn't mean to start a fuss, but I do thank Osgeld, Chosen, and others for helping me remind folks what this forum is all about.

Forums can easily become sloppy and lose value for their participants if they are allowed to drift from their main purpose. This particular forum is one of the best I've found -- full of useful information and very helpful suggestions for handling tricky problems in creating textures. I cannot begin to thank the MANY people who have taught me here. We're not here to sell textures or other products, or to advertize our services, and we shouldn't be encouraging posters to ask us to do it, either. We're here to learn from each other, pure and simple.

I thank Chosen for his reminder that it's polite not simply to say that a particular post is out of place, but to point to a better place for it. I generally remember to do that, as I did in this case, but it is good to be reminded to be helpful even while saying, "Not here, please."

@2k Suisei -- Have you tried running a Flaming Pear filter on your fuel line? Sometimes stray bits in a 32-bit engine can create a white halo and foul your spark plug.

The funny yet sad thing is.... don't you poeple have better things to do then post long winded heated debates over a simple mistake? Jeez.... a MISTAKE.... move on.... life is too short.

i dont know why your getting into a twist, we know it was just a mistake on your part and its no big deal just trying to guide you to where your more likely to find what you need, its the others doing that turned it into a "thing"

giving a list of places to go may be helpful
giving a list of artist's for hire may be helpful
doing the job out of the kindness of your heart may be helpful

i don't see how you making a new client (complete with pricing) is helpful to anyone but you
