Texture faces?

I was just made aware of different texture faces on the same 1 prim object. How do I select them and can say each side of a square pillar have a different texture? Or have the texture placed differently? I have a long square shaped object made as a mantle, with a very nice texture made by myself. When looked at from the front it looks great, but the top and underneath sides have the texture turned 90 degrees the wrong way.

Please is there a way to fix this? I am relativly new to building/creating in SL....but not to creating 3d objects in general. Though my skills arent super advanced in like 3DsMax or something, I have used simpler programs (suchs as Accutrans for Active Worlds) for years.

Thanks for any help!

Myra

PS is there no way to import 3d models in whole or in part?

Check the "select texture" radio button to select individual faces.

Don't worry about it, it is not that obvious! And you probably just helped someone else with a similar question. :)

Yeah, as Snowman said, don't worry about it. The question comes up all the time. I didn't find Select Texture by myself either. Someone had to tell me how to do it too.

The problem is Select Texture is just a silly name, so it's not obvious. It doesn't accurately describe what you're actually doing. When you use it, you're not selecting textures at all; you're selecting faces. So it aught to be called Select Face, not Select Texture. ''

I've been saying for years now that the editor should have a three-way toggle at the very top for selection masking. The three options should say Select Whole Objects, Select Individual Prims, and Select Individual Faces. You can't get much more obvious than that.

An alternate way to apply a texture to a specific face of a prim is to drag and drop the texture from your inventory to the face you want to stick it on.
