Hello all,

I know you can apply different textures to different sides of a prim...

For example, lets say I've made a wall and I've applied a texture with both wall and windows on one side, I've changed the 'repeats per face, both horizontally and verticaly and everything looks fine. When I apply a 'wallpaper' type texture to the other side, can I also change the 'repeats' without changing what I've done on the other side? Also, is there a way of changing the colour tint on one face without changing it on the other faces?

There's probably a much easier way to explain this, but I'm afraid it escapes me at the moment. All help will be very very very much appreciated....

Thanks.

Sure! just make sure you have 'select texture' checked in the edit mode. When you click on a face you'll see that face get selected with kind of a 'crosshairs' overlay. Now whatever you change in the texture tab, offsets, repeats, color, etc, will only apply to that face. You can also shift-click to select multiple faces at a time.

Thanks so very much for that info, I've been trying to do it for ages, when I get one side just right, the opposite side looks weird, I've changed that side and then the other opposite side changes.......I knew it had to be something I was doing wrong....such an eejit..!

Anyway, can't wait to use my new-found knowledge.....

Thanks again...

I drove myself nucking futs for about 6 months trying to figure that out. I never saw that "select texture" button, and was wondering why everyone else could do it but I couldn't. Then one day the light dawned, the roosters crowed, angels sang, the gates of heaven opened, and I saw the magic button that allowed me to do that.

I'm glad you found the information sooner than I did. *grin*

You can also drag a texture directly onto a face, which is useful especially when uploading (I almost always drag the just-uploaded texture directly onto the thing I made it for, to see how it looks right away). The eyedropper tool is a fast way to get your texture onto a prim, too.

Man, does anyone ever figure out Select Texture on their own? I know I sure didn't when I was new, and this question comes up soooo often.

Lindens, why is a normal selection hierarchy is such a big thing to ask for? I've been saying for years now that there aught to be thee buttons right across the top of editor for selection masking. They should read "Select Whole Objects", "Select Individual Prims", and "Select Individual Surfaces". That at least would make literal sense. Select Texture makes no sense at all.

I spent a long time in the Ivory Tower and don't think I had this problem because of that. But your suggestion is fantastic. Too bad it takes forever to get done... versus age verification :P

I've been in SL since May, and I just couldn't figure it out at all....... I thought I'd discovered a cure for ageing when I realised that I could scale textures.....felt very intelligent!

Now, I think I might try World Domination with my new found texture knowledge...

Thanks to all the other much more knowledgable people than me...for sharing the wealth....
