Anyone have any techniques for producing blade edges that look as if they've been honed?

new layer, a very light spatter airbrush, in diagonal to the blade edge, apply a little gaussian blur (current layer only), and set it to lighten rgb...
although that might not be appropriate for something like a katana, it works very well for knives.

Void, and whoever else is interested. I eventually discovered something along the lines of what you posted. My variation involves using the add noise filter (monochromatic) to create some noise. (similar to your speckle brush) then I used the motion blur filter to stretch it out a bit. Works pretty well imho. But thanks for the tip!
