Spiral Graphics releases the new version of its flagship seamless texture editor. Spiral Graphics Inc. today announced the immediate availability of Genetica 2, the anticipated new version of its flagship seamless texture editor. Free demo versions of the application can be downloaded from the company's website. New in Genetica 2 is a "Lab" system that helps artists quickly create a wide variety of seamless materials. Among the handful of Labs introduced, the new Substance Lab offers a user-friendly starting point for creating textures from scratch, while the new Weather Lab allows artists to quickly apply a wide variety of seamless weathering and aging effects to their materials. Genetica 2 also helps automate the construction of numerous texture types including weaves, air vents, peeling paint, floor grates, and wood. In addition to all the new features, Genetica 2 comes with well over 500 texture presets, each of which is seamless, resolution-independent, and fully editable. Genetica 2 is available in two editions: Standard and Pro. As well as the new features found in the Standard edition, the Pro edition adds such goodies as fully seamless hair, volumetric clouds, a powerful batch processor, and more. Additional information on these and other new features introduced in Genetica 2 is available at www.spiralgraphics.biz/gen2tour/index.htmFree demos of both the Pro and Standard editions of Genetica 2 can be downloaded from www.spiralgraphics.biz/download_gen.htmSpiral Graphics Inc. is a software development firm based in Fort Collins, CO. Spiral Graphics' primary objective is to develop innovative software tools for the computer graphics community. In addition to Genetica, Spiral Graphics is known for the Wood Workshop, a free texture editor that specializes in the creation of seamless wood textures. For $400 USD I think Alien Skin's Textures plug in is better value.

Thanks so much for telling us about this, Fran. I've been looking at texture making and there's so much grunt work needed to make a creative idea usable. The price isn't too bad if the product is flexible enough.

If you're interested in procedural texture generators you should also check out DarkTree 2.5 which sells for $419. It's a great tool and lots of fun to play around with.

I've been playing with the demo. Its a really neat way of generating textures. I'm impressed.
I'll prolly buy the standard version for $129, as $400 is a little too much for the features offered in the Pro version, but the hair and fiber node would be really useful.... but of all the features the Pro version offers, that is prolly the only one I would use regularly... and for an additional $200, its not worth it for me.

-Ghoti Same here. The seamless hair texturing is very tempting, but not $200 worth of tempting. Great program though.

Lots of fun!
Here's three quick and dirty textures... less than 5 minutes each.
