Just a thought, but have you tried taking a handful of photos of distressed fabric with a digital camera, dumping them into Photoshop, and using them for models as you practice painting?

I've noticed when looking closely at some clothes that have decent-looking rips and tears, that the effect is sometimes nothing more than a little squizzling with an ordinary eraser tool on coarse-ish fabric. Intuitively that seems like it should look crappy, but the resolution is low enough on SL clothes that it seems to work a lot of the time.

The best way to create rips and tears in clothing would be to take pictures (digital) of rips and then photoshop them in. This way the original file is high-res enough that you can manipulate to your hearts content. With layer mask and your paintbrush you should be able to create convincing tears. What I normally do is bring in the tear or rip on it's own layer, use a layer-mask to block out the "hole" and use a soft brush to "blend" the edges around the rip/tear, desaturate the layer and then depending on your personal workflow you could use overlay or if you use adjustment layers you could use that to create the color match. Now once you have the rip in place you have to create the "hole" in your alpha channel so that it is see through. If you use PNGs in SL, then I would group all of the item and then create a layer mask for the group of the "hole". I will try to post a tutorial regarding this process, but in photoshop or any other program, often it is better if you try and figure out your own process....

I know I should just post it here lol but you can do that if its any good for ya Kind regards I tried to find the post you refer to, and it requires me to create an account (yet another password and login I will have to either remember, or just toss aside when done) just thought you would want to know, it is not a simple click and look, click, figure out it is in the forums, then go to forums, then find free resources sub forum, click only to find out one must log in (thus if not a member, must create an account) I am doing it cuz I wanna see the tutorial, I love to learn heh edited to add.... I did all that only to find out it is a tutorial I have seen already LOL _____________________
