Hiya, I' having trouble with some of my clothes I want to sell - I don't want people to buy them from me and then resell them so I uncheck the 'Next owner can resell' box.. but then I can't deselect 'Next owner can copy' box.. I'm confused... I want people to be able to modify but not to resell, so what am I supposed to click in the properties tab? Hope that makes sense, sorry if this is the wrong forum

I don't believe you can make it both. Anyway, why would it matter if they can copy it if they cannot transfer it?

This thread doesn't address your exact question but might be helpful anyway. Link: /327/49/214572/1.html

It follows principles of fair use - if people are not allowed to copy, they should be able to transfer it. If they are not allowed to transfer it, then they should be able to copy it.

The way this is done with objects is by giving the object's components different permission levels. IE: one script required by the object is No Copy, Transfer, and the other animation requires is Copy, No Transfer.
I don't believe it can be done with clothing, just objects.

You can't with clothing as far as I know. It doesn't matter if it's copiable, as long as it's not resellable. People like to make copies of clothes they buy in order to arrange them into different folders for different outfits, or store them in a box somewhere for retrieval later to avoid having 48 million items in ther inventory. The box I use doesn't allow no copy items to be stored becase of the risk of losing something. No copy items can go missing, and you have no opportunity to back them up somewhere.
Alternatively, people like to be able to give away their old things, or things they bought but never wore. I set my clothing to copy/no transfer in 98% of cases. How you set permissions is entirely up to you.

Hope that makes sense, sorry if this is the wrong forum It's impossible in SL. You can prohibit copying, but must allow the clothing item to be resellable. You can prohibit resale or transfer, but the clothes must then be copyable. There is a trick to restrict prim items so they can neither be copied nor transferred. But if you do that with your prodicts, your business will absolutely suck, because very few people will buy from you more than once. Unless it was supposed to be a "Limited edition, only ten of these exist in SL" sort of thing...

From: Scarlett Melnik I'm confused... I want people to be able to modify but not to resell, so what am I supposed to click in the properties tab? If you want people to modify stuff then you'll also want them to be able to copy stuff (within thier own inventory) - The reason being that an original unmodified item can be backed up and not lost through multiple modifications this way. If someone is allowed to make multiple copies within thier own inventory permissions will still prevent them from redistributing those copies by unchecking the resell option. Of course, the permissions system is nothing more than an agreement between you, LL, and the rest of the community that you will abide by the TOS. You are safe as long as people do this. People have the ability to circumvent all of the permissions settings, if they want to, for textures and objects. This is a risk we all take when selling stuff like this.
