I'm struggling with flexy prim skirts. Not so much the "flexy" part but getting the textures right for the prim panels to match the top and glitch pants to go with the skirt. I've been uploading the same "base" texture for the prim skirt as what I've made for the top and pants. The textures on the prim part never seem to match the top and pants no matter how I tweak the repeats and offsets......the texture on the prim is always different from the texture I apply to the top and pants in appearance (the pattern is either way larger or way smaller.........and if I change repeats and offsets the pattern gets distorted). I know I can size textures 256 x 512 and get that size in SL. Can I size it, say, 128 x 512 and it would still upload that size? Or even 64 x 256?

I'm trying to get rid of distortion or obvious differences in patterns.

Thanks :)

Peg.

dunno about your issues but yes to your question, you can upload images with different h/v resolutions such as 8x1024 or 512x128 ect

Thanks :) That's what I was asking.

I'm just trying something to make the patterns on my textures more in line as far as size is concerned. If it works I'll come back a post about it. I'm not making clothes (or anything else) for sale..............very simply for the sheer fun of it. I give stuff away if anyone wants it. :)

I believe the color for the prim skirt and the glitch pants appear to be mismatched because of lighting effects. The sun is fallng on them from differnt angles and they diisplay with differnt tints of the same hue.

Osgeld is correct about the powers of 2.

But I suspect Sylvia also has the real problem identified.
When you create something in SL, there are two options for applying visual interest, 'texturing', and 'color.'
-- 'COLOR', when applied using EDIT and then Texture tab, and then the color picker, will allow you to quickly and easily change the colors of an object. This color, however, will change with the SUNLIGHT...both the time of day, and the angle of the sun.
--The applied texture is not affected by the sun.

So, if a texture includes ALL the color it needs for your design, and the 'inworld' color of the object is set to white, (essentially NOT using the color picker in the EDIT Texture tab, only the Texture picker) there should be minimal changes to tinting of your object by time of day or sun angle. And thus, your top and bottom should match.

In your graphics package, out of world, put the 'color' on a separate layer of your image...so its easy to change. Save it with all layers intact, then Flatten it, saving it with a new name, and upload.

will this change with the new lighting system? Or is that only for the sky...

Actually, I'm not talking about the colors difference......I understand that completely. I'm talking about the difference in the size of the texture patterns being different when using the same size texture for both the clothing parts made in the appearance and the clothing parts made as a prim. The pattern on the clothing parts created with appearance are more or less fixed when applied. The pattern is not the same apparent size if put on a prim skirt panel due to the repeats per face and/or offsets.

Think a black and white checkered pattern. The top and glitch pants will have approxiamately the same sized black and white checks. The prim panels for the skirt will have some other sized black and white checks depending on the size of the panel, repeats per meter and offsets. I've been able to adjust the repeats and offsets to get it closer to correct looking........but then I start running into a distorted look to the texture on the prim panels. I'm trying to see if I can adjust my texture in my graphics program before uploading to compensate. Just an experiment on my part.........and thank you for all the information. :0
