Recoloring Hair

I keep seeing that diff. hair styles are "recolorable" but when I actually tried to do this, the piece (a bang piece in this case) was ruined as far as I can tell. It was white, and I did manage to turn it red but now the frayed end pieces are gone and it looks like a bunch of very boxy prims stuck to the front of my head.

Is there a recoloring tutorial or a word of advice on this?

Sounds like you got rid of the texture that had an alpha channel that gave it those nice frayed bits. :) If you poke around in "Library" instead of "My inventory" there are a couple of greyscale textures with alpha channels. One of those should "fix" your hair and bring back the frays. I can't give a more specific location for the files in Library until the game comes back up but i hope this helps a bit.
Another handy habit to get into is to automatically make a backup copy of prim hair if it's copyable. I can't tell you how many times I've screwed up my hair and wished I had known to back up the original first. :P

Oh this is a lifesaver - can't wait to see if it is there - I did the same thing with hair I bought yesterday.

Yarrr! It's what I do -- Lost, one of my fave hairmakers, usually has COPY/MOD/NOTRANS permissions on his hair, and for the times it's been NOCOPY/MOD/TRANS instead, I've had to personally ask him to set it "the other way" and give many thankyous upon arrival of said repermed hair (that sounds so funneh).

I wish it was easier to make backup copies of folders that had the proper permissions, however -- it's a pain to grab all the bangs and right-click and copy and paste and then do that for the folder name too, which I label thusly:

Cool Hair (BACKUP)

Handy indeed tho!
