I was thinking about making some simple alpha layers for things like:

basic shirt
basic pants
basic undies

By alpha I mean I would do the black and white alpha channel on the alpha window so they could see how it should look.
Would anyone find that helpful? They would be offered as PSD files through my website and not in world, since I don't see much use for it being in SL when you can't take it out of SL.

Let me know :)

alpha layers

Well, if you want it to be useful, you might want to think about making alpha CHANNELS, seeing as how there's no such thing as a "alpha layers". Non-existent things generally aren't useful.

Sorry if my tone reads as acerbic, but you hit on my number one forum pet peeve. This forum is the only place in the whole of the known universe where people have the unfortunate tendency to use the words "layer" and "channel" interchangeably. This confuses so many people, as layers and channels are two entirely different things. I try to squash the mixup every time I see it.

Anyway, I think the files probably would be useful to people, so my vote is go for it.

EXCUSE ME, that is what I meant to type, but I'm human and I error..unlike some people I suppose. I even thought it to myself, knowing you would show up to say that (funny how I called that). Furthermore, I explained alpha channel below, I just didn't catch it at the top.

Why do you insist on making everyone feel bad ;( I'm just trying to be helpful. I have alot of respect for you around here, but I don't appreciate you acting like because I used the word layer I am no longer being helpful at all. I have never once been rude to you...maybe you should try it out, you might not get people losing respect for you over it.

Hey Sae :) I think that making alpha channels would be a HUGE benefit to myself and many ppl just learning how to make clothing. Funny I had just posted a thread seeing if there were any alpha channel templates I could find. I really appreciate the fact that you are considerate and are trying to help others!!!!

Calm down, Sae. I wasn't rude. I even took a second to apologize in advance if my words might read that way. What more could you want?

And I don't "make everyone feel bad". I volunteer more time than anyone you've ever met making people feel good, trust me. I'm sorry if YOU feel bad about having been called out on a mistake, but as you said, everyone makes them, so what's the big deal? Having one pointed out shouldn't be such a sore spot. Plenty of people have pointed out mistakes I've made here in the past (some even delight in it, which I'll never understand); it's not the end of the world.

Look, the layers vs. channels thing is a serious issue. Don't assume you're being attacked just because someone goes to pains to make it clear to those reading that there is a world of difference between the two words. You'll notice that what I said here is practically word for word what I've said every other time I've seen layers & channels get mixed up. I feel it's important to emphasize the distinction. The purpose is never an attack on anyone.

As for what you think I should "maybe try out", thanks for the suggestion, but really, I think the only rudeness here was in the eye of the beholder. Certainly none was intended from my end. I could throw the same words right back at you and suggest that maybe you should "try out" not being so quick on the uptake, but that's not really the direction I'd like this conversation to go. If you choose not to accept that, and you choose to "lose respect" over it, there's nothing I can do about that. The decision is yours.

All I can say, for the third and final time, is I'm sorry if my perceived tone was less than shiny-happy-smiling, but that's always a risk with text based discussions. That was why I tried to head it off right from the start with the in-advance apology for any possible misinterpretations. Bit clearly that preemptive effort was not successful, as you chose to feel insulted anyway, but I did what I could.

The important thing is the message itself, which is that new readers should do their best not to be confused by the fact that for whatever reason people insist on mixing up those two words here, and that I'll do everything I can to help them in that direction, always.
