Template Question

Hi everyone :) I used to make a lot of skins for the Sims 1 and think I did an ok job of it. I have been watching the trends in here, forums and in world, for a few weeks and think I could make up some pretty cute clothes for girls using what I know from Sims. I downloaded the templates from second life and the ones called CMF with all the colored lines and I know Paint Shop pretty good. I wanted to know if there are more templates available for download. Like blank tank top shapes would be terrific. Even with those CMF ones I am having some problems getting them to look right in Second Life. If not, thank you anyway but thought I might as well ask to see before i go crazy trying.

Thankies :)

Jess, the SL templates come with some basic clothing forms built in, but they are basic, and to be quite honest, I haven't really even looked at them.

Otherwise, it seems we all have to come up with our own clothing forms. It took me hours to figure out the form for swimsuit bottoms with nice edges!!! wish I could have just used someone's else's templates--but then again, much of our stuff would look alike.

And, in many cases there are more ways to create an effect than is totally obvious.

Of course, I'm new at this myself, but cloth designing seems to be half defining the shape of the clothing and half defining the texture. Once I have a shape figured out, though, I reuse it in different clothes.

please help

Hello I'm pheobe Scholten and I make clothing on PaintShop Pro. I am having a problem with the side hip area of my skirts have holes. I don't quite understand why? My textures completely cover the template, and beyond! It even looks right in the preview before I upload it, but when I actually wear it there are small holes on the side hip area. I have even tried to adjust my appearance and even used jacket instead of a shirt but nothing is working. could it be the template, and how would I overcome this?

Letting your texture overflow the template like this is good - is there any chance that you have an alpha mask that is still cutting it off though? It is often a good idea to let the alpha mask overflow as well - or to not even apply the alpha at all.

I am having a similar problem. When I upload a shirt it looks perfect in the preview window, but when I put it on it has a funny "dent" on my one sleeve. Only one sleeve, and since both arms are covered with the same section of the texture this seems very odd. After some discussion with Ben I think it might be a problem with my Av, especially since when Ben wears the same shirt he doesn't seem to have the problem.

I must also add that the shirt looks perfectly from some angles on me, and then break and make the dent/hole from other angles.

I haven't tried this yet Pheobe, but maybe if you change your body shape you can establish whether it is the skirt or your Av. Or perharps give one of your problem skirts to a friend and see if they also have the problem.

Are you sure that the skirt is actually wide enough that your leg isn't passing through it? I know, it's a strange question, but I've noticed that it is possible to make a skirt too small, and because the skirt is actually intersecting the body, it appears to have holes.

Just a thought.

It sounds to me like maybe you have the skirt fit set too tight and your hips are poking through. It might not be a problem with your texture at all. If it looks good in the preview but now on your av, try going into appearance and making the skirt a bit more loose.

Jacket Templates - upper & lower body ?
11-10-2005 11:41
Hey there, been trying to do a couple of bits of clothing for my toon and i've run into a few problems. Have'nt had any problems doing shirts, pants, etc, just shoes and jackets left now. I've been using a shirt pattern for the upper body section and the lower body alpha as a template for the lower body section, but i have two problems.

1-A> The shirt template is fine for color but not for alpha, i'm assuming this is the pattern most people use for jacket upper body areas ? Need the very base of the jacket to be wider to allow it to line up better with the lower body area.
1-B> Same problem in reverse for the lower body pattern, need the top to be wider.

2>Auto alpha layering in photoshop cs (PS8), now i read a little while ago on here about a plugin for photoshop that automatically renders the alpha layer based on RGB layers and then auto saves the alpha layer. What i cant remember is if it was for PS6 and lower, or PS6 and above ? Anyone has the link be much apreciated, cant seem to find it now.

Think both problems are one in the same really, just two ways of looking at it, if anyone has any advice, cheers in advance.
