Hi guys,
I downoaded Blender, Wings 3d and Rokuro this weekend and had fun paying with the Rokuro application. I was told that Wings 3D is easier that Blender to learn. Any experienced users out there that can give an educated preference?

Also, Any good turotial sites (other than the ones listed on Wings 3d site) for learning the application. I made a shape, but can't figure out disecting and such.

Thanks!
Jax

I like Wings 3D ok.

Search these forums for "Wings 3d" there are a lot of posts you might find useful.

Also, Search the rest of the Wiki.

One point to keep in mind. A lot of the capabilities in Wings 3D (or any other 3D modeler) cannot be used when making sculpties. Once you start, don't add or delete vertices, just move the ones you start with.

I learned how to model in wings. And for modeling it is surprisingly powerful for its disk space footprint and ease of use.

For sculpties it is quick and easy in its export process, there are some inherent limitations
however that are detailed in the link given in the above post.

In blender you get a much finer degree of control as you are creating your sculpt map from
'scratch' in essence from within blender.

However it is conventionally known as one of the hardest programs to learn due to its counter
intuitive user interface.

However once you do get familarized with the interface everything else is just a matter
of following instructions in terms of learning new things.

And once again in terms of sculpties it gives you a much wider range of choices. :)

I've tried both blender and wings3d. For my two macs, wings3d crashes about every minute or so, so it was pretty hard to use, but i made my first sculptie with it.

I also noticed that wings3d seems to be a dead program with no one working on it and most tutorials linked from their web page are no longer available--so it was pretty frustrating just learning.

I've now started using blender and it's not too hard, once you get used to it.

Nurbs shapes seem really easy to work with in blender. Here's a tutorial that really helped me get started making shapes in blender... http://www.blendernation.com/tutorials/blender-3d-beginner-tutorial-creating-a-heart/

And for importanting into SL, here's the tutorial that finally got me going... http://iramblesorry.blogspot.com/2007/05/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love_28.html

hope that helps :)

I don't know much about wings3d. Blender tried after 10 years all I could figure out is how to exit program.
Rokoru is very simple program its like playing cats in cradle with virtual thread, there whole lot more to it but you can save and upload files very easily but it does have its limitations.
There is newer program that was created called SculptyPrims that allows you to make flowers, rocks, stairs and other shapes very easily and soon even arches but its tiny bit trickier but seems quite simple like Rokoru.
I am absolutely simpleton but I can figure out Rokuro in very intutive way but its not like I can produce detailed items like those who have experience and expensive programs or can use Blender. So if I can create things in Rokoru or Sculptyprims you can.
There is also another similar program called Lathe something don't remember exactly but its in resource page that is very similar as Rokuro but it has very little tutorial information and it saves as gimp files and I don't use gimp.
