Folks,
I have a freebie object that has a texture I want to use on my own prims. I can edit the freebie and see the texture in the texture editor. But I can't figure out how to copy just the texture to my inventory.
Is this possible? How is it done?

Unless the texture is included as a separate file in the object's contents, you can't copy it. Just because the object as a whole is free does not mean all its components are individually free.
