Prim or part of the shirt texture? I believe the neckties I have seen in world were all part of the shirt and on the shirt texture. Is it worthwhile to try to make a prim necktie? Has anyone had success making a convincing looking necktie this way?

They do exist, and usually look better, imo - try a search for 'prim ties'.

Yes. And they will be a part of my store when it opens. The ties do the same as the shoes do. Gives a bit of realism.

They are simple, make one root prim at the top and make a flexi prim that goes into the previous prim, make sure when you texture it the alpha channel has a diagonal transparecy line so that it will be pointy

Blaze Columbia makes some awesome looking ties. You can find them at his stores. Jen

House of Zen also sells a huge range of flexi ties, with shirts that are designed to go with them.
Persoanlly, I prefer a tie that is part of the shirt. The flexi ones are OK, but they wave around too much for my liking.

I sense a market for tie clips to hold down those pesky ties that keep flying away.

This is what i do...
I make like an undershirt layer with the back of the tie going around the neck..and then i make the tie (I do opened neck ties though...)...flexi with the prims.
I find it very hard sometimes to get certain neck attire that are made with prims to look right on the neck.
so if you do that part around the neck as a clothing layer, and then the rest a prim its much easier.
just an idea that may work for you.

I have prim (flexi prim) neckties and ones painted onto the shirt depends on the look your going for but I like the flexi neckties if its a casual look obviously doesn't work so well if your making a suit with a jacket that closes over the tie otherwise they are pretty nice
