Designers/Texturers..
I'm new to building stuff in SL, and am trying to build an Everglades-style airboat, since I live on a very shallow waterway, and thought it'd be a cool mode of transport... Anyway, I'd like it to look as realistic as possible, so I was figuring on having two different states for the propeller, one, a realistic-looking 3 or 4-bladed prop for display when the vehicle is stopped, and then a disk with some kind of texture/animated texture for the operating propeller. I've searched the forum for any info on how I might handle this in a realistic manner, but no joy.. I expect the aircraft builders have a real good handle on this type of question, so how about it guys?? Whats the best way to realistically simulate a turning propeller???

Thanks

The animated version is relatively easy to do.

Use the static propeller and apply the 'radial blur' filter on both the alpha channel and also the RGB. Then smudge the one in the RGB a bit further to bleed into the edges so you don't get a white halo around the edges. Thats it. :)

You might even want to introduce another state of the propeller. When its just about starting up its spin, just rotate the static one, and then followed by the blurred one, so it's less abrupt.

Thanks CottonTeil!

I'll give that a try.. I'm not real up on all the bells-whistles of PaintShopPro, but at least I have what to do...
