I don't know of any specific resources on jacket making. What exactly are you having trouble with?

Can't Get Jacket to fit around the hips right

Jacket does not fit, regardless of using the sliders. Maybe my ass is too big, not really, but for a guy, it should fit. Creating a shirt and skirt, is that correct?

Yes and no.

A jacket uses the skirt template, yes. But when you create the lower half of the jacket, it has it's own option in the Appearance choices, and that is on a higher layer than the skirt is. If you chose 'skirt' and applied the texture to that, it will not fit.

The upper part of the jacket is also specified as a different layer than the shirt is on.

Switching computers, so I can get you some details...

If you are using the Linden "jacket," then the top half is the Upper Body and the bottom half is the Lower Body.

That's why the silly things stick to your legs.

So if you are using the Skirt template, it's not going to work at all.

You need to put the lower half on the LowerBody, and you also need to be aware that, for some reason known only to the Linden who made it, the front of the Upper Body is on the left, but the front of the Lower Body is on the right.

So be careful!

Hope this helps!

In the Appearance dialog, you want to select 'Jacket', not Shirt or Skirt. The texture for the top part, made using the shirt template, goes in the 'upper fabric' pane, and the texture you made with the skirt template for the lower part goes in the 'lower fabric' pane.

Ceera, you don't make the lower half with the Skirt template.

That's for skirts only; and you only use it if you are making your own jacket by using a combination of the Shirt and Skirt. (Which a lot of designers do, since the other one sticks to your legs if it goes down that far.)

The lower half of a "Jacket" is the Lower Body Template.

If you're using the Skirt template, you're not ever going to get the two pieces to line up perfectly.

You must use the Lower Body template.

(That's why the Linden template has the Jacket part shown on it.)

Thank you for the correction, Robin. I checked the Appearance dialog, but I hadn't looked at my templates to check that part. You are quite correct, and my advice in that regard was in error.

I've mostly been making dresses and t-shirts, and have made few jackets so far myself. It had been a while since I tried making a jacket. My designing mind is stuck in 'dress mode', I guess.

Please excuse me for reviving an old topic, but I have found very little information in regards to making an untucked t-shirt. Hobbled from various sources, I found out I needed to make a jacket in SL and use the upper body template for the upper fabric. But, I could not find any information about what to do with the lower fabric until I found this post. SOOOO, thank you very much to those who contributed.

Now, my question: How do I conform the lower "untucked" portion of the t-shirt to the upper body when I have to use the lower body template for it? Do I make a temp. file combining the upper and lower body templates and design the t-shirt that way? And when I'm done, do I simply transfer the top graphic to a separate upper body template and the untucked part to a separate lower body template?

I'm using combined Robin/CMFF templates. I have read several t-shirt making guides. But, they only refer to tucked in t-shirts. Thanks for any assistance provided!!!!!

Edit: As of right now, I'm just making the t-shirt on two separate templates. I suppose for seamlessness, just make sure there aren't any wrinkles suddenly being cut off. So, I guess that really is the answer to my own question. :)

One problem you'll run into mighty quick if you try this is noticing that the scale is different for the top and bottom layers where the seams meet. It's easy to see when you've got a repeating pattern that the bottom layer is smaller than the top layer where the seams meet.

I'm newbie-ish to clothing making myself, but so far I just avoid putting wrinkles that cross that seam :)

To use your temp-file idea what you'll prolly need to do is create your temp file that's bigger than normal and scale both layers down until it matches up. Use a preview tool like SLCP (or the other one I don't remember the name, I'm on a mac and it's windows only). Trial and error, baby :)
