Yes. You can use any texture or graphic program that can do alpha channels and save or export to targe or png generally.. which is most.

Post #2 of that thread includes alpha channels for PSP.

Basically you just.. paint em onto a template, which is available for all programs, I believe from the download section of Secondlife.com even. If none there work for PSP, then there are resident-made ones here on the forum that should.

And there probably are tutorials all the way.. but. .I dunno where =P

As Okiphia said, it's just a matter of painting onto the template. You do know how to use the paintbrush, right?

That said, you should explore PSP's features. If you don't know what they do, you should - it's not very far off from Photoshop, but it has differences.

Make sure you read the alpha transparency sticky. It includes instructions for PSP.

That thread I cited above? Alpha channels? Yeah, make everything not meant to be seen into a full transparency alpha channel, and save the file as a 32 bit targa. Problem solved. Th thread tells you that, as well as how to actually make and edit the alpha channel.

Then, you have to create the shirt IN secondlife with that texture.

Right click your av>edit appearance.

Shirt tab, 'create new', select that texture.. tada!

in PSP there is no way to specify between saving a files as 24bit, or 32bit, it's done automatically.... if it has an alpha channel it'll automatically bump it up from 24 to 32.

to create an alpha channel in PSP you create a mask, then save that mask to the alpha channel... you can either leave the mask in place or delete it from the layer before saving as .tga when you do save, make sure to hit the options and select 24bit, and uncompressed (these will stay that way the next time you save).

I suggest saving the original as an umcompressed psp file, and then saving your copy to upload as tga... the psp file format will preserve any layers and multiple alpha channels, while tga will flatten all the layers together and discard alpha channels past the first. you can also save to psd format for compatibility

EDIT: most of the PS tutorials, and a majority of the plugins and filters, will work just fine for psp... there's a few features that aren't available in psp, or may be named slightly differently, but most of the actions and core things are very similar,

What Void said, with a slight difference.

I've never bothered to change the basic settings on the save format, I simply select to save it as a TGA instead of a PSP image, I don't remember the actual .name. Otherwise it is simple as pie, draw out your image, using as many layers as you want, hide all of the template layers and then resize to 512X512, make sure you erased all the extraneous stuff. Then you create a mask, I always make sure it is the top layer though I am not sure it matters. After you get the mask made you save the mask to alpha channel, save the whole thing as and make sure it is a TGA. I save it to the desktop so I can erase it after uploading, or have to go back and erase a few more things, realign the lines or fiddle with the color.

It is key you do not open the TGA after you make it and close it, if you do so you lose your alpha channel and it turns into a picture. Key to never ever open those TGA's unless you are taking something out of SL. I made that mistake when I first got it, Photoshop doesn't do that, suppose it hurt the friend I was getting help/information from uses photoshop.

I've never seen a .tga file lose it's transparency data after opening it... what did you open it with? and did you save it back instead of just closing it?

I'll disagree about just saving to tga, if you keep the psp or psd format you can go back an edit details more easily, change color, etc, plus have a template for variations on the design as you gain more experience... personal preference, but it can save duplicating work on revisions
