I have been trying to make a nice tattoo using Photoshop. It is a full-colour tattoo-design showing a dragon.
I need to extract the dragon from its white background and give it a transparent background. Using the selection by 'color range' works to remove the white background and make it transparent but it also removes the white parts in the dragon, like eyes, horns etc.
How can i solve this ?????

I use those pixel wands I dont use the select by colour options and then I clean it up pixel by pixel until any raw edges are gone. There is a magic wand (i never remember the names of them) you click and it picks the surrounding edges. There is also a lassoo type deal that works well so you can select huge chunks.
Usually though to be honest I make a drawing and scan it in in black and white so its really easy to fix.
I'm a scan freak i dont like drawing in these programs so i do it on paper. One day I will switch.
If i want to add colour I usually ad it later using a layer or 20.

The magic wand is one easy way to go, although it's results tend to be a bit rough.
You might also want to try a channel mask. See http://forums.secondlife.com/showpost.php?p=1658220&postcount=6 for details.

Wouldn't you want the white pieces gone for a tattoo?
My advice would be to actually invert the colours, so the white is black, black is white, and THEN get rid of the black, leaving the white. The reason for this is that is you use a white texture, rather than black, you can colourize in SL and not have to worry about the halo effect.
Also, isn't it always nice to have the option to colourize? *grin*

See, if it wasn't so early in the morning, I would have read that. Why do you let me post before coffee, Chosen?
OP, Use the magic want, delete all the white around, OR, Do the "Find by colour" thing, then go in and deselect the white areas in the tattoo.
Then go into your alpha channel, select the black, all of it, then expand it by 1 pixel and paint black along the lines of the marquee. This'll kill the halo.

You may want to try experimenting with the Extract Filter as well. I have had some good success with it
