Okay, the other day when I was redoing all of my boxes in my store, I came across something different. When filling the boxes, I noticed suddenly that alot of my clothes had some perms checked by default.

"Share with group" and "Allow anyone to copy".

These are apparently now checked by default on your clothing since 1.5. I lucikly caught it before getting too far. I went back and unchecked and now make it a habit.

Unfortunately Mistress got an im saying that people had happened upon this and were copying the clothes from the boxes. All they have to do is go into contents and drag it into their inventory.

So please go through and check your items for sale and anything you upload new be sure to check!

This thread just reminded me I needed some new clothes, so I bought a bunch of stuff from Neph's 'N' store.

Damn you all.

I can't buy just *one* thing....*sigh*.

I thought it was just me. Thanks for posting this. I've been tearing my hair out.

The problem may be more severe than just vendors. Not only have I discovered reset perms inside vendors, but in my inventory as well. Many of my avs have ended up with randomy reset perms on every item.

I know for a fact that this has cost me several sales already. They need to fix this soon or lots of us may be out of business.

I noticed that yesterday too. It was random for me. I made a series of tattoos and after loading them into the vendor I always check properties. I found some were set fine and some had all things checked. I had made these all in a row.
I fixed the ones that were checked wrong .

Thought I'd chime in just to say I have seen this behavior as well and was only alerted to it by a kind friend (thanks, Bri!).

I know LL is working on not only these kinds of issues, but also a revamped permissions system. The big disconnect at the moment is that users think that if the permissions allow them to copy something, it's okay to do so. And I really can't blame them. SL is so different from anything else people might have experienced.

Still, people need to be educated about copyright theft and LL needs to help facilitate that. Oh, and these bugs need to be killed ASAP, too.

I was in my store yesterday... and i notice ppl are clicking my boxes for a long period of time... and then walking away and teleporting. I think its a very strange thing that they are doing. They'd b looking at it for at least a minute... and then they stop and teleport. It looks very suspicoius... and i know that i fixed all the permission problems.

Do you have any idea what they are doing?

I just checked my items, and the permissions on several of my items have changed to 'allow anyone to copy" and "copy".

How frustrating that I've worked hard to make quality clothing, and now people are running around with copyable versions. And you know there are people out there who will think nothing of copying them, not to mention re-selling.

Verify your permissions are correct!

And thank you for the heads up.

Well, lol apparently I didn't listen too well to my own warning. I checked everything I replaced in my store. I forgot to check my most expensive items that were already out. They have been checked all this time. So that means that it's quite possible people are running about passing off clothing for free that i worked very hard on. YAY!!!

Even though "technically" they aren't wrong for getting them free, they know well that it's morally wrong. None of us sit our clothing out for sale and then have it set to copy free. If you are one of the people doing this I really hope you're enjoying yourself. There's a special place in SL hell for you, though where that is I'm not sure yet. I'll make damn sure you never get away with it with my stuff again.

What bothers me the most about the people who I know took items (I know two for sure, but no clue who else) is that if they had just told me I'd have been so grateful that I'd have given them the item for free.

I guess if you're the type of person to take advantage, it's just more fun to rip people off.

ack.... good catch Torr.

As for all the designers out there who got slammed by this, remember... if they have to steal your clothes they dont have teh skillz. You do. So keep on making your amazing clothes and let them keep trying to rip people off and well see who comes out on top. W3rd

They might have been trying to copy your clothes, or checking to see if every item in there was protected or not. I have a feeling that there are people who had never attempted it before, that decided to check after reading this very thread. Heck, they may have been checking to make sure you were safe, after reading this thread... because they like your stuff and don't want you to be ripped off.

Or they might have been doing what I do sometimes... checking to see just what exactly is in a box before they decide to buy it. I know, it tells you what is in it when you click 'buy' and you have the chance to change your mind, but if you want to check several boxes it is easier to stay in edit mode and just click each box, rather than doing all the clicking of going through the 'buy' interface.
