I Have An Alpha For Nails

I of course cannot get into the game to hand it to you. I can talk about how to locate one to you once the game is back and running.

Look in your SecondLife\character folder. You'll find a file in there called nailpolish_aplha.tga.

From: Nyx Divine OK color me blind but where IS this folder? hehe Assuming you're a Windows user, and you have SL installed on your C drive, launch My Computer, and then navigate to C:\Program Files\SecondLife\character\. For Mac users, accessing the folder is a slightly diffrent process. It's been a while since I've had cause to use a Mac though, so I'm afraid I don't remember how to do it exactly. I think the procedure is to command-click on the SL application and then select "Show contents" but I could be wrong. Maybe Robin or another friendly neighborhood Mac user could verify/correct this. Anyway, you'll find a lot of helpful image files in that folder besides just the finger nails alpha. The contents of that folder control your makeup, your default skin, your wrinkles, etc. In other words, when you look at your av naked, you're looking at the images in that folder. When the av is wearing clothes, you're looking at a composite of those images plus the clothing images.

From: Chosen Few Look in your SecondLife\character folder. You'll find a file in there called nailpolish_aplha.tga. This is a good starting image to work from. However, if you want to take it to the next level, test it out with the UV map overlayed on top of the nailpolish alpha and observe the placement of the nails in relation to the UV map. Then, run a preview test on your avatar to look at placement. The areas for most improvement are the 3 fingers in from the little finger (alignment issues), and the smoothing of the jaggies on the original (nailpolish_alpha.tga) file. Also, the nailpolish alpha was designed to work crudely with the sliders, so you will notice the abrupt gradation steps in the grey levels. This is not needed for a static nail polish alpha that will be used as a tattoo or glove/sock layer. Instead, it's much more desireable to have a completely white area on the interior of the nail shapes that is crisply anti-aliased at the edges, blending into a pure black for the rest of the image. If anyone wants to get even fancier, make the root of the nail opaque (pure white), the mid section of the nail slightly transparent (grey 245 on a 256 scale is good. Remember, grey levels operate from 0-255), and the tip of the nail (for a french manicure) pure white again. Were talking a few pixels here at this scale on a 512x512 pixel image, so don't expect too much realism. I hope this bit of information is helpfull to others. Cheers, NAM

This could all be fixed if LL would give us a rainbow slider to deal with the nail polish colour instead of fading from bare through pink to red. There are times when I want to wear purple nail polish without having to make and upload 20 different files for my outfits.

Hiya's Rather then start a new thread I figured I'd ask in this one I've found the nails alpha, But can't figure out what I should be doing with it, I'm using Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 Also I'm wanting to create my own eye colours but can't seem to find an alpha for it. Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful tips they could share? Thankyou Nat
