I finally got every thing I needed to start making clothes..I have downloaded the templates...started adobe..opened templates and now all I can figure out how to do is like a basic t-shirt and thats about it..I want to design something a little different then that..I guess I am saying I want to bring what I have drawn on paper into the computer..How would I go about doing that? Any Help or advice would be fabolous..thanks Tina

Be patient, and don't give up. You just have a lot to learn.

I am not a clothes maker, so I cn't give you more practical advice. But if you search these forums for information about clothes (and tattoos and skin, which are similar) then you will find a lot of useful information.

Think of the templates as paper patterns layed out on your fabric. You have to use photoshop to draw the fabric in, and make sure it lines up right at the edges and the seams. You might also have to draw in wrinkles and folds and shadows.

Me? Í'm no artist.

If you post a picture of your sketch I could perhaps give you more specific suggestions. Otherwise, just jump in. Take your favorite sketch and scan it or draw it in the template and try it on your avatar. If it didn't turn out the way you wanted, make adjustments in your template to try and fix it and try it again.

It was difficult at first for me to take a 3D idea and then create it on a flat surface in PS.

What helped me most of all was taking snapshots of items I created while wearing them in SL. I'd keep the template layer on (but a bit transparent) so when I uploaded it and it was on the AV I could see what I was doing wrong...or what I needed to fix.

It was the best way for me to wrap my brain around which seam went where, what parts would be stretched beyond recognition, where details could be placed...etc.

Doing this really helped me visual the item when I was working in PS. If I have a design I'm not sure of...I still go back to my snapshots of me wearing my template suit :)

I believe you can get them at Robin Wood still (is that the correct name? Please correct me if I'm mistaken).

Enjoy yourself!

Best,
