Hi! I'm looking for a texture that would be used on the lighting grid sections that you'd find in many clubs and concert locations.. I'm trying to build some custom sections of this type of grid, and buying a premade grid assembly from one of the club/dj supply places just wouldn't work, due to most being no-mod, and much too high/large for my use. So, I'm trying to build and texture it myself... Since these grids look very similar to a section of a radio tower, I've searched all of the usual suspects for something close.. No joy!! Does anyone have/know where I could find such a texture --or-- some sleight of hand I could use with Gimp/PaintShop to generate such a texture with transparency between the grid elements?? I'm pretty new to texture/image manipulation, so be gentle... Thanks in advance.. Tas

We have two Clubs that come Copy/Modify located at Bleed Designs Under the PREFABS Wall One is a Lightning Blue and the other is Red As far as Gradient Textures ( This is what you're looking for I'm guessing?) I have made some myself. IM me in world with what colour you're looking for and I can sell it to you

no, Tas isn't looking for a gradient texture or I imagine she would have stated so.
what she does ask about is a texture that would be similar to the steele work like you see on the Eiffel (Spelling) tower.
Gradients though would work great for the light beam effects, yes.
I would offer up how to achieve this look but unfortunately my way of going about it is created in Photo Impact and thus a custom set of objects (3D shapes) then tranfered to PS for the final .tga creation.
A grid or scaffolding type texture could be created in PS alone, but with alot more steps involved imo.

From: Hunter Stern I would offer up how to achieve this look but unfortunately my way of going about it is created in Photo Impact and thus a custom set of objects (3D shapes) then tranfered to PS for the final .tga creation. You've got me curious now. I've never used Photoimpact, but my understanding is it's a raster editor, not a 3D modeler, so how are you using to to create "a custom set of 3D objects"? I would really like to know what you're talking about. It sounds interesting. I hope you'll respond. From: Hunter Stern A grid or scaffolding type texture could be created in PS alone, but with alot more steps involved imo. Again, I don't know what you are or are not doing with Photoimpact, so I really have no basis to compare what "a lot more steps" might mean, but grids/scaffolding needn't require many steps to create in Photoshop. For creating these things, like everything else, there's a million ways to do it, ranging from very simple to very complicated. I'd be hard pressed to imagine that the same wouldn't be true in just about any other raster program. Textures for an Eiffel Tower type structure could be made pretty quickly in Photoshop, or they could take a very long time, depending on the desired results and the artist's chosen techniques, but either way, the fact that there's grid-work in place doesn't really add anything to the workload that wouldn't be there for any other texture. The number and complexity of the steps involved would be much more dependent on the type of detailing involved (metallics, rust, rivets, scratches, weathering, etc) than in the shaping of the grid-work itself. I'm still curious what in Photoimpact you feel is such a work-saver for this type of thing, and how it is that you're able to create 3D objects in it. I don't know anything about the program other than what it says on Ulead's website, which isn't much. It sounds just like any other hundred-dollar-ish photo editor by their description.

Hey Guys!! Thanks to everybody who posted and sent me several great textures, which were EXACTLY what I was looking for... I'm about 90% done with the build that's using the lighting grid I made with the graciously provided textures... If anybody wants to come by and see what I'm talking about, you can check out my new club, tentatively named "Club Abyss", however, that may change as I understand that there's already a Club Abyss out in the Metaverse somewhere... The location is Rainbow Sands (109,33,21) and click on the teleport pad on the arrival barge to tp down to the club.... Tas

Thanks for the link Tas, always great to have new place to explore too Chosen, sorry for teh delay in response, but unfortunately I can't give a detailed explanation of how the 3D effect is achieved at a more efficient rate with PI ( I was hoping to provide actual pictorial examples of what I'm talking about but my company who hosts my work is transfering servers at this time and is not available). but for more info on Ulead Photo impact you can always visit www.photoimpact.comOr give it a whirl here
