im assuming, but wanted to check with others, on what is more important, actual weight of the image or its dimensions?

Should the textures be simple (for example, a sparsely-created star field on black), or match the compression method just right (avoiding colors and patterns, etc that make the compressor work harder), that a large image becomes a low file size, then is it ok to save at a higher pixel size? Is Jpg2000 similar to standard jpg in its file size relations, so perhaps i can check on my local machine 1st?

Anyone know what equivalent level of compression is done to a jpg image as its compressed and uploaded?

Thanks

Remember that when your texture is being displayed by someone's video card it's no longer compressed. While an image that compresses well will make it load faster, it will take up as much video RAM as the size of the uncompressed image. There's lots of useful info about this in Chosen's sticky: /109/e6/150360/1.html
