Lol... i read the tutorial on how to make an alpha layer to make transparency and everything, and attempted to do it.

I reach one point where I have a problem.
3 of 4 methods for PS say to click the 'Channels" tab on the layers palette, but i have no channels tab, and can't find any way to view the channels for my image, so can't continue beyond there, and can't do transparency.

I'm not sure how, but using the 4th method of select and then save as a new selection (No save as new channel option here either..hmm...) I got it so that when I preview in-game, the shirt part of my image is completely transparent, with only the arms and such showing (Tank top), so its kinda done the reverse of what I wanted.

Can anyone help me out here?

!. Paint your shirt, leaving the transparent areas transparent
2. Open the "Layers" tab
3. Make sure all the layers are combined (merge visible layers)
4. Cntrl-LeftMouseClick the layer (should now have the running ant lines around all the solid areas)
5. Choose "Select -> Save Selection" (I normally name this "alpha 1", but any name should be fine)
6. Choose "Select -> Deselect"
7. Create a new blank layer and place it BELOW the other layer
8. Hide the visible layer (the one you drew)
9. Fill the blank layer with solid black
10. Unhide hidden layer
11. Go to layers tab and choose "Flatten Image"
12. Save file AS a Targa File (32 bits)

I'm glad someone stepped up to explain it to you here, Okiphia, but just so you know, you could have saved yourself some grief had you scrolled down a little in the Transparency Guide, and read the section on Photoshop Elements instead of the section on Photoshop. Of course the PS tutorials were not applicable for use with PSE. The two are entirely different programs. That's why there are separate tutorials for each in the guide.

EDIT: By the way, I highly recommend you disregard "Step 11" from here. Two reasons for this:

1. Flattening the image yields absolutely no benefit whatsoever, so at best it's nothing more than a small waste of time. Since TGA files are inherently layerless, they always turn out exactly the same, regardless of whether your working document has been flattened or not. TGA's don't know what "flat" or "not flat" even mean.

2. Flattining is destructive. The only thing you accomplish by it is to make things MUCH harder on yourself should you need to make changes later.

For example, what if your shirt has text on it, and you discover a spelling mistake after you've uploaded it? If you flattened, you'll have to start all over again from scratch. If you didn't flatten though, it's a 2-second fix. Simply edit the text in the working document, save a new TGA, and you're all set.

Always preserve your layered work as a PSD, and then save out to TGA as a copy. Work as non-destructively as possible at all times.
