Transparency Gradient Light Texture

Hi all,

I'm sure this question has come up often, but I might as well put it in because I'm sure someone will be delighted to answer it.

I do not have photoshop, and I am trying to make lights with a faded transparency texture, aka 0% on one end, 100% on the other as the light fades out. I'm seen alot of people who have these - it seems pretty standard.

Could someone either send me in-world, email me the attachment(monkeyenterprises@gmail.com), or tell me where I can find one.

Also, as far as I know it is impossible to make transparency in paint right? Otherwise I would just Sue-Hank this myself.

Thanks all

Here's two quickie ones I made. One is just a plain gradient alpha. The other is a gradient noise alpha. The plain one is good for things like searchlights/spotlights. The noise one is good for outdoor lights. If you add slow rotation to the light cone it will look like the light is illuminating fog or mist in the air.

I tried to find these for Ivan but didn't have any luck. If anyone has them, please repost them or pass them along :)

Have done.

Here's some UUIDs for anyone that wants them:
  1. 468c035b-c808-8262-81c2-78d7dfc7abcd : linear gradient, 0%-100%
  2. 4e61a4f9-2ebe-a87c-5903-c270f795e375 : linear gradient, 100%-0%, 50% alpha 1/4 of the way up
  3. 638a8185-af3a-2502-17ab-67b019141a08 : linear gradient, 0%-100%-0%
  4. ca6cb38c-c1c3-b35c-b2e2-d662800053ed : linear gradient, 0%-100%-0%, 50% alpha 1/4 of the way from middle to edge
  5. 6079328f-83ea-94e7-c6d9-54a64424f9d5 : radial gradient, 100%-0%, 50% alpha 1/4 of the way from middle to edge
  6. 3cb3ddb4-24e8-801c-5eb6-c38fa112d749 : radial gradient, 100%-0%, starting 1/2 way
  7. 35d702dd-8a6e-a4d9-9530-aa7017bdb594 : radial gradient, 100%-0%, starting 1/2 way, 50% alpha 5/8 of the way from middle to edge
  8. d8d2f660-32d0-9105-6195-2cb9ae03a02c : radial gradient, 100%-0%, starting 3/4 way
  9. 32eb3cdb-7bbf-4f7b-0198-6147a3e0dfe6 : radial gradient, 0%-100%
  10. 46a19291-abdc-6666-8f98-e5535147443f : radial gradient, 100%-0%, starting in a corner, ending at the sides

All 32x32, some scale better than others.

Yes, I like building stuff with gradients. If anyone wants, I can come back and update the list whenever I make a new one. :D

I have made a few gradients before. They are 512x512, I think.

White to transparent:
e651e19c-84b9-c897-f2b6-44c7d9c39167

White to black:
ebb79fe7-28a1-35f8-def2-1c4bc2f7057e

White to black to white:
182caa5c-2959-6efe-2b64-d54021ab3ede

(They fade from left to right.)

Feel free to use them however you'd like, do anything with them. I can send them inworld.

I may have duplicated some effort when I made them, but I didn't know of any other such textures. (Thinking about it now, 512x512 was too much, especially vertically. I didn't really think about it when I made and uploaded them. Eee.)

Aye, 512x512 is total overkill for those. The interpolation done by the 3D card's texture filtering should make unweighted linear gradients of any resolution identical.
