Ok,i have a nice leather texture on hard drive,i wanna turn it into a gimp pattern I can use to fill text or areas on photos,can anyone out there help?

Kornscope,"Menu: Select > To Pattern" - what menu would that be, in 2.6 i cant find that anywhere

To make apattern from your current image, do a File -> Save As and save it as GIMP pattern (.pat file). Then move your new pattern file to the Pattrens folder of your GIMP installation directory. You can tell where that folder is by going to Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Patterns.
You will need to close GIMP and re-open it to get it to recognize the new pattern.
