I'm not sure where you searched and searched, but for me, a quick Googling of "free arabesque textures" yielded 69,400 results. Of course, "free" doesn't necessarily mean the images don't cost money. It often means "royalty free", meaning you buy the image once, and then you're free to use it anywhere without having to pay royalties to the copyright owner.

Googling for "arabeshque brushes Photoshop" led me to this free downloadable brush set. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/46938941/ With that, you can make your own arabesque patterns in seconds.

If you're looking for where to find any textures that might already exist in SL, go to the Products Wanted forum. That's what it's there for. This forum here is for learning how to make things yourself.

Regarding making things yourself- for my house I didn't want to be accurate in any way, but really wanted a very specific 'style' or theme, so I went to the library and grabbed every book I could find that looked relevant - Indian textiles, architecture, Turkish tiles, Arabian art - all sorts of books laden with lovely rich colours and pattern. Then I, ehem, scanned them in and started playing with the colours and repeats and anything else that worked until I had a set that seemed well-matched and significantly different from the originals (for example the border around my doors was modified from a scan of the ribbon in my scarf - the border around the walls is the same pattern slightly adjusted.). The windows were made in PS using the shape tool and a lot of swearing, the floor tiles the same but with slightly less curse words.

If you want to take a look for some ideas it's here. I'm going to be away from SL for a bit so I don't mind people tromping through my house (they do anyway! - but I won't be there to be grumpy when people don't knock). None of the textures are for sale cos they're baked to fit my build and the shadows would look silly anywhere else, but it might give you some ideas. Get ye to a library!

Well I for one am glad you asked this question, Ralden...I am a huge fan of arabian/moroccan/oriental themed items, and I've spent hours combing the web extensively for ideas and sources for textures. But I never thought of searching using the word "arabesque..." I've always just used arabian, moroccan, oriental, mosaic, tiles, etc and so on. But arabesque...dang; I can't believe I missed that.

So, because you asked, I now have a new search to try, and the lovely set of brushes that Chosen so kindly pointed us all to :-)

What's wrong with, say, the first link on the Google page? http://www.fotosearch.com/aridi/arabesque-designs/ARI126/ It offers 100 royalty free arabesque patterns.

It sounds like you've got something very specific in mind, and given that the possibilities for randomization in those patterns is infinite, the chances of finding the exact picture you've got in your head are obviously nil. If you need something that specific, make it yourself. Otherwise settle for something close, and call it a day.

Yipes! A hundred dollars...beautiful textures, but a bit out of reach for most.

Ralden, what I usually do, and what might be helpful, is to google or yahoo for your keywords (like "arabesque";) using the IMAGE category. That way you can preview the relevant images as you browse, and save yourself a lot of clicks. As you say, there are certainly a lot of NON-relevant results.

In fact, Yahoo even lets you specify large, medium, or small image sizes in your search results. This allows me to find sites that are generally more relevant, and I can often use the resulting image as an inspiration or a baseline for a custom-built texture that is exactly what I need.

Hope that helps...

I'll grant you not everyone would be willing to spend a hundred bucks on textures, but keep in mind it is 100 textures for that. That's a dollar each. Pretty good deal.

You can also buy each one individually for $24.95.

If that's still too steep, then how about the second link? http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=22352 If I'm counting right, there are 33 textures in the pack, for the whopping price of $0, FREE.

The point was there's plenty to be found, but if you can't find exactly what you want, either make it yourself or hire someone to make it for you.
