Is it a copyright violation to use photos of a RL jeans you own and use it to create jeans for sale in SL? Not necessarily the whole jean, but pieces from it such as zippers and buttons..

Im not clear on the issue, I know people do this but is it "legal"?

Is it best to just create the jeans with some jean fabric textures and draw in the other details?

Can someone give me the heads up on this? Thanks

There was a good discussion about this here a few months back. Unfortunately the thread devolved into a flame war and ended up getting locked, but on the whole it was still a good discussion. You can find it here.

fabric is fabric is fabric. Unless it is an identifiable print or logo or label. My 2 cents.

Without the logo, its your photo. You made the photo. I buy photos. i signed for a service that for a fee gives me commercial rights to photos that benefit me in SL. So its all about rights. So the way I read copyright and IP law, as long as you have permission from the photos owner, the company (if you are using something logoed) or remove the logo off a generic item, you're good.
