I wonder if anybody can help me.
I wish to start making textures but I am having trouble finding good stock photos. Currently I don't have a camera so I cannot take my own at the moment.
Does anyone know of any links that might help?
Thanksx

Google...Flickr...Wikipedia commons: not really stock photo sites, but many usable photos, and many free to use.

It's time to raise the stock response ...... Be sure that you have permission from the creator to use any photos that you get from ANY source but especially the Internet. Wikipedia Commons is fairly careful to post only photos that are licensed for general use, but photos on Flickr and many of the other sites are not necessarily free to use. The chance of getting caught is pretty small, but it happens. More to the point, Mom and your 3rd grade teacher were right .... it's never right to use someone else's work without permission.

I like to use DreamsTime.com. They have a very acceptable pricing structure. My best kept secret for years.

Most of my textures are created from scratch, but when I do need source material, I use iStockPhoto a lot. If you need high res imagery, it can be a little pricey, but just for texture-size stuff, it's cheap.

The best sites that I have found are www.isourcetextures.com and www.environment-textures.com
Both of these allow their images to be used for commercial proposes. It is very important to look at the user licence to see whether you can use the stock images for your product. |
