Check out this texture page for all your designing needs. Please note the Usage Terms at the top of the page but I think that it should be ok for use in SL as long as you are not making real money from the sales of your end-results.

This is a good starting point for texture use.

If you don't mind me adding another good resource, Luke, Blue Vertigo is an extensive listing of free (and commercial) photographic and other design-related materials (scroll right to see the first section "Stock Photography/Free" for sites offering free photo and texture downloads). I have used some of these for various projects.

One thing that potential users of this resource should note is that many of these textures have non-repeating edges, which means, they won't seem together perfectly.
