when I logged onto AvPainter earlier,a box came up saying there was an updated version available. I clicked it but it froze and I had to close AvPainter. When I reopened it the box didn't come back up. Is there an updated version? And where do I go to get it?

Did you try the link I gave? http://avpainter.osbyte.net?
I just pulled out my AvPainter inworld, like the page I linked to said to do. The chat it emitted is in my chat history: [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): AvPainter Computer is starting up... [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): AvPainter - paint clothes directly onto an avatar [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): Please note that this is an external program for Windows only. [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): Hello, SuezanneC Baskerville - I will now fetch you an access code... [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): You have been registered with code xxxxxxx [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): You can download your copy at http://www.cyplexia.net/sldev/dl.php?name=SuezanneC%20Baskerville®code=xxxxxxxxx [15:15] AvPainter Computer (v1.21): Please make a note of this access code as you will need it to unlock AvPainter when you first run it. So if you are still in SL check your chat history. If you have exited SL and log your chat , check your chat log. Rez your inworld avpainter computer object and see what it says. _____________________

Yep, there's a new version and you have to download it from the link in the chat log window when you rez your existing AvPainter Computer (as Suezanne explained above).
Once you download the new version, open and run it... it will ask you for your SL login name and AvPainter access code (the code from your old version)... enter them in the appropriate boxes and AvPainter should launch. From there, you're good to go! It's the exact same process as the first time you downloaded the program. Once you have the new version (1.3.0) up and running, just toss the old one in the trash. Hope this helps. ![]() |

Hmmm... interesting problem, AdAstra. The new version works just fine for me.
Perhaps your GIMP file got corrupted somehow? Try a different .tga file that worked with the old version. Also, maybe you're missing something from the new AvPainter .zip file when you extracted it or one of the files didn't transfer correctly, so try downloading the new version again and reinstalling the program. |

Only I am opening a .png file from PSP, not a project file...and no option for that. confuzzled. _____________________

There's an icon of a folder for loading a texture folder in the Textures and Layers window.
The new version has added project files. The help file, in the AvPainter Controls windows, has the following info: Project Files Project files (with a .avp extension) contain a collection of settings including the following: Filenames of the textures you're editing Base maps for the textures Assignments of textures to object parts The purpose of the project file is to allow you to resume editing outfits without having to individually reload the various different textures. The filenames of the texture files are stored relative to the project file if they are contained within the same parent folder, otherwise they're stored with the absolute path of the file on your computer. If you move the project file, and/or the textures, AvPainter may not be able to find them again when reloading, so you'll have to manually reload them. This does require the textures to have a filename before you save the project file, so make sure you've saved your textures first. It'll warn you if you don't. Saving the project doesn't save changes to the textures themselves. If you want to save everything, use File->Save All (Ctrl+Shift+S). Loading a texture The load texture button allows you to load an existing texture in for editing. If loading the texture will replace any unsaved changes you've made, you'll be asked if you want to save them first. The textures must be either 512x512 or 1024x1024. AvPainter will load the following image formats: PSD (Photoshop) : including layers TGA (Targa) : 24bit (no alpha) or 32bit (with alpha channel) BMP (Bitmap) PNG (Portable Network Graphics) : Can contain alpha JPG (JPEG) PPM (Portable PixMap) Saving the texture AvPainter saves the textures in both targa (.tga) and photoshop (.psd) format. The file dialog allows you to filter on the tga and psd file extensions, but either way, you'll create both file types. AvPainter edits textures at a 1024x1024 resolution, regardless of whether the original loaded texture was 512x512 or 1024x1024. When saving, the texture is exported in the targa format in both resolutions, with all the layers flattened into a single image suitable for use in Second Life. This uses the original filename (if present) for the original resolution, and with the extension .1024.tga or 512.tga for the other resolution. AvPainter also saves the file using the existing filename with a .psd extension using the photoshop format in order to preserve the layers. It is recommended you work on the 1024x1024 textures, but only upload the finished 512x512 textures to Second Life. I just loaded Chip's upper body template tga file as a test and it loaded properly. _____________________

That's exactly what happened- I was able to re -save the original TGA file and it worked perfectly- the customer support is excellent- he emailed me several times til it was resolved- (I am AdAstra- I had not noticed before i was logged in as an alt when i posted that above, sorry for confusion). _____________________

Just to further clarify: I opened the avatar databank mesh under 'File > Model > Import OBJ' and Avpainter gave me one 'Textures and Layers' panel and listed the seven parts of the object in the 'Control Panel' (eyelashes, hair, head, lower body, upper body and two eyes) each of which having the default 'Unnamed' listed opposite under the 'Texture' column.
I loaded the appropriate files for each part in separate 'Textures and Layers' panels and retitled each one so that I could assign them to appropriate parts under the 'Texture' heading (i.e "g3_avatar_head: Head" and "g4_avatar_lower_body: Lower" ![]() When I had the complete set of files assigned (including the dumbass linden hair) I chose 'Save Project' and created an avp file. However, if I double-click on that file, Avpainter opens the default setup of female av with head, torso, legs and skirt layers and if I try opening the file from the Avpainter menu I get a message to say "unexpected problem encountered when trying to load this object". Is there some little dance I could do or maybe a special arrangement of lucky toys I should tack up around my monitor in order to get this working? |
