Is it possible to buy a piece of clothing that is marked as being ok to modify, and then extract the texture file and, well, modify it? I can't seem to find this option anywhere.

You can't edit the texture except to replace with one of your own.

It's done so people don't rip off the texture and use it in their own products. Or at least, that's my understanding.

So then what does it mean when the shirt is marked as "modifyable"?

You can use the built-in sliders to alter the item of clothing. I.e., you can take a pair of jeans and make shorts.

Hi Onion, and welcome to SL. What modifiable means with clothing is that you can tint it and maybe change the sleeve length, etc. If you put on the piece of clothing, go to Appearance, and select it, you will see a box for tint. That will allow you to darken the color.

If it is an item made with prims or primitives, you may be able to resize and tint it.

Hope that helps,

Jen
