Guide for aligning textures?

I know this was mentioned in the forums the other day, but I've searched and searched and can't find it.

Someone, one of the experts who often offers advice on here, was saying that they had a texture consisting of a chequerboard pattern with letters or numbers on it to help in aligning textures and setting repeats, etc.

I'm working on something for a friend, and am being driven mad by trying to get the textures on two prims aligned. I think the problem is that the pattern on the texture is too complicated, and the repeats only allow me to see a small part on each prim. I just can't see enough to line them up properly.

A test texture like the one I described might be my answer. If you recognise yourself as the person who has one, could you please let me have a copy? Or tell me where I can get such a texture?

Hi Wulfric!

You can pick up a copy of just such a texture at my Texture Tutorials in world.

They are at Benten (25, 115, 28) if you don't like the SLURL for some reason.

Touch the objects on the pedestals to get the notecards. The texture you are looking for is attached to one of the notecards. I think it's the First or Second Station. Not in world right now, so I can't check, but it's one of the early ones.

Hope this helps!

YEs.
And there's some more templates at IDEA CITY for things like calculating repeats.
OH! and some 'Shadow' textures you can throw on the floor to add depth and 3d :)

I'll throw my endorsement on Robin's test pattern. I use it every day. It's been a real life saver. I don't know how I ever got along without it. It's awesome.

I haven't seen the Idea Island stuff, but I'll check it out. Sounds interesting.

If it was not for the great Texture Align script I found, I would of driven my self mad. There are a few tricks to it, but the creator is very helpful, or you can give me a buz.

Hmmm, I have found that simply copying the size of the prim (x,y) to the horizontal and vertical texture repeat is generally enough to handle most situations effectively, with only some offset required if any.

I will have to check this out regardless. Good tips!
