Help me take the white away

Well..i feel sorta stupid..i understand alot of it..only thing is ...for example i find a cool picture for a tatto...then i open it in PSP 7 and of course it has white around it like if i was to copy and past it from google or something...how do i get rid of that? And the corners and everything makes it impossible to erase..haha..i need help if neone understands my problem

I use PSP 9 to make plants and am pretty sure PSP 7 would have the same system.

Once you have the design on the screen click on the layers menu and then 'Promote Background Layer'. If the design if a basic shape you could use the magic want tool but personally I delete the background by using the Background Eraser Tool. change it to very small and then magnify the design (I magnify to 1500 for deleting and then to 2,500 to check that I have left none of the background white). Erase carerfully round the outside of the design and then the rest of the background. In Layers menu click on New Mask Layer.

Again under Layers, click on Load/Save Mask- to alpha channel.

Then under File select Save As. It will ask if you want to merge image - click on yes.

When you save it be sure to save as a .tga file (true vision targa) or it will still have a white background.
