I just mastered making shirts using GIMP but I am having a little difficulty with jeans. I have not been photo sourcing rather drawing my own clothing. How do I add the denim texture??? Do I just take a swatch of denim and put it on a layer and then draw on that?

Also.....when adding lace and other embelishments.....do most ppl photosource or draw them freely by hand?

Thank you :)

One more question too.......how do you create flair jeans without using prim attachments??? Or more of a bootcut look????

You can add some flare to jeans with the appearance sliders; that makes the bottom move away from your avatar a bit. Check your jeans after changing the appearance to make sure they still look good; you might need to tweak your textures a bit for the right effect. If you're using a pattern on the cloth it will get stretched horizontally, so you might have to predistort the texture with the pattern shrinking near the feet so it looks consistent all the way down after flaring the pants.

Flared jeans get the fleshtone inside the jeans glitch; that is, the "inside" of the jeans at the ankles is the same color as your skin. That can be straightened out with appropriate socks; visit Robin Sojourner's store for free ones. I'd suggest making your own to deliver with your outfit, but Robin's will show you the idea.

Thank you Shirley......that definatly makes sense how to change the cuff size on pants....:)

Now if only i could makes the jeans.......lol.....I know how to make plain pants and shorts just by painting them using the templates.....but I don't know how to add the denim texture.....I just got done trying to photosource some jeans and when I uploaded them they were all twisted and distored on my AV...not sure why since they matched the templates.......:( so frustrating.........but I would rather create my own jeans anyways....I just dont know how to add the denim....

if your using photoshop i make the thing in greyscale and then i colour it or i ad a texture on top using the overlay options and put it in a seperate layer etc. Im not very good at explaining it because I just do it.

But basically i take the texture and stick it on a seperate layer and then on a layer underneath I start to draw the details in greyscale and then on yet a seperate layer I will fiddle with it for things like zippers and buttons and various trims and then i mush it all together lol

That's my wilhelm explanation. also before i mush it all together (i guess its merge layers or flatten depending on what you are doing) i save a copy so i can use it and change colours but putting yet another layer as a tint and then i mess with adjustment layers to change the colours even more.

Err that probably doesnt make a lot of sense I hope someone comes along that has better words for it (I seem to have run out for the moment tired i guess lol)

*probably should not have bothered to try to answer the question*

*hides*

LOL.....I appreciate you answering my question and Im pretty sure I understand what you mean. I currently as using GIMP......*rolls eyes*..but actually it is not that bad a program. What I am understanding is to paint my pants in grayscale.....then on an overlay layer apply the demin texture...then on another layer add my details....I will definatly be experimenting with this....Thank you!!!

I have no idea what I am doing wrong.....I did get the denim texture onto the jeans...although it doesn't quite look right since I stretched it across the entire layer.

But......I draw on my zipper area...(which looks terrible right now...lol).....but when I upload it is is all the way on the side of my AV's leg......but in Gimp on the template it is drawn in the right place.....I have no idea why everything is distorted when I upload it......my shirts always turn out fine....it is just the pants im having troubles with...

avoid the dreaded crotch triangle put your zipper up higher then you think it should be and end it before you normally would if that makes any sense because as you approach the dreaded crotch triangle things get pulled in ways they shouldn't. Also download slcp from here its free.

If you denim texture is not working right try making a larger piece by putting several squares of it together and making it seamless. There is actually an ell chepo program for making patterns seamsless or you can work on the lines where the denim meets in gimp. If you do it this way there will be a tool I would think that is called stamp or clone or something close to this that lets you copy a small patch of the pattern and then stamp that copy onto the seam area. This too takes practice but basically you work to blot out the edges of the seams where the two pieces of your pattern meet. Some people also use blur I have read elsewhere, but I use this clone stamp method. Doing it this way you can save the resolution of your denim texture and make it as large as you like using sqaure panels.

I have not every managed to successfully used gimp (we simply didn't get along hehe) but if there is a way to make it overlay as a pattern and increase the repeats of the pattern this may also work. (again in photoshop there is a way to create a pattern on a layer by opening a window of options that lets you scale the pattern to the layer/image)

It actually sounds like your on the right track its just a learning experience and once you figure it out you will be able to make other things. I would suggest moving the zipper up (ending it higher up on the front area to avoid the dreaded crotch triangle where everything stretches the way it should not)

slcp is in the links section above and helps you see if things are gonna stretch or not.

again hope that helps and i'm glad you translated my wilhelm speak :)
