I am trying to screen/stream my first video a simple rectangular object in my SL home.

I have figured out how to do it with no problem (except one), including the "select texture to be media texture" etc.

my problem is, when I click the "play movie" button at bottom of screen, my movie's left edge starts half way across my object... and the other half falls off the right hand side of the rectangular object altogether.

There are three components at play here: the object... the texture unit designated as the media texture... and the media file itself, being streamed. so...

Do i need to alter the size/shape of my object? Do i need to alter the pixel dimensions/size of my video? do i need to alter the dimensions of the texture that I've selected as my media texture?

Thanks once again for advice/tips...

PS i can submit a picture if description is unclear...

Edit the prim that has your default media texture. Select the texture tab. Set Repeats per face for both horizontal and verticle to 1.000. Set Offsets for both horizontal and verticle to 0.0.

This will center and size your media texture to the prim and should play properly.

Sam's answer will solve at least some of your problems. You may find it still doesn't quite fit.

The simplest answer is in the About Land panel, media tab, autoscale texture to fit.

I've never actually tested this, but a few random observations make me believe that the streamed video replaces pixel for pixel, although with a simple resize to scale. Let me try to explain that a bit better... say you've got a 256 X 256 texture you're replacing, and the video you're streaming is 600 X 400. The stream will be resized to 150 X 100 (binary division being fast) and then streamed over the 256 X 256 pixels, taking up rather less than we'd like. Checking the autoscale texture to fit forces the division to give 256 X 256 as the result so that the streamed video fills the prim "screen" and lets you control the division.

Sadly I've rarely seen streamed video with a powers of 2 sides and don't have a streaming server to really test the observation on, but if you're planning on making your own videos that might be an option for you and faster, higher quality streaming.
