Hey all

Not new to Second Life but an wanting to try my hand at mainly clothes making, and a lil texturing. Unfortunatley, I'm extremely new at photoshop. :\ I was wondering if any of you knew of a place that I could find tutorials for photoshop. I looked at the adobe website and found some but they were fairly spendy. I'd like to see if i could find some more resonably priced.. ( free if possible. lol) Thanks for the help. :)

Google has a load, there are so many it's worth thinking about what extra terms, for what bits you need most, to add to the search terms.

A visit to your local library might help too. I upgraded from PS7.0.1 to CS2 in one big step. I was also, thanks to SL, using PS a lot more heavily. I invested in the SAMS teach yourself PS CS2 in 24 hours book (I like the format of most of the ...24h books and I'm less keen on others, but that's my personal choice not an endorsement that it will be the best one for you) but my library has a range of tutorial books for CS2 available.

Hello,

A great place for Adobe tutorials (of all sorts including photoshop) is place called www.lynda.com
Not only do they have Adobe tutorials, they also have tutorial from different manufacturers as well. I'm not sure what they will cover for photoshop but at least you'll get a great feel of how to use the program properly.

What's really great about that site is that its a video tutorial site and it will take you through the steps, visually.

They have sample videos for you to view. Subscription cost is 25.00/month for unlimited viewing and is well worth it if you really want to learn.

Hope this helps you out.

These were from some random forum I visited a while ago. I've never really explored these sites but from the front pages I see they do contain photoshop tutorials.

If you don't mind paying a small yearly fee, NAPP national association of photoshop professionals has a video tutorial section with close to 200 video tutorials which are pretty nice.
http://www.photoshopuser.com/

I have 9 or 10 Photoshop video tutorials I made on game content creation on my website. You can see the videos down the left hand margin.

Planet Photoshop has a nice video tutorial section

hope these links help :)

There's also 3D Buzz. Once you register (it's free) you can download their Training Videos. They're free and really good too! I learned the UnReal Editor & a couple other programs this way.

The web is literally crawling with free Photoshop tutorials! :D

There are a lot of free tuts at Adobe. I'm not sure where you were going that you could only find tutorials you had to pay for, (I'm guessing Training,) but if you go here you'll find the free ones.

There are also a number of sites that have vast numbers of tutorials. Try

PSLover.com
eScrappers.com
Russell Brown

Or Digital Media Designer, (which often takes you to the Creative Mac site, so don't be alarmed if you don't have a Mac,) where Dave Nagel has a whole series of Photoshop Tips for Beginners. (starting here, here for the second one, here for 3, here for 4.)

Those might not be exactly what you want, but Nagel's stuff is great, and his brushes are wonderful. :D

On all these sites, you'll want to search the vast tutorial base for whatever it is you are looking for. You might want to start with "Beginner" and go on from there as you develop specific questions. (The Digital Media Designer family of sites has a funky and weird search, that doesn't always work as expected, which is why I gave you those 4 links. So for that one, you might want to browse the Tutorial Archive.)

And, of course, if you have a specific question, you can ask it here. :D

NAAP is very good, but, at about $100.00 US, I'm not sure I'd call the fee "small." On the other hand, if you're going to be buying stuff for your computer (software, hardware, or supplies,) or traveling, or something, you can easily recoup that in the course of a year by using the special discounts you get as a NAAP member from various retailers (like PC Mall, Apple, Dell, Office Depot, several Rental Car places, and lots more.)

I'm a member, and I love it, by the way. :D

Hope this helps!

Robin, thanks for the links and info!

I noticed that Adobe has an incorrect filesize stated for the Lession 15: Animating GIF images for the web. The zip file is listed as 836M (WOW), but really is just 836K, lol.

I've sent them feedback so they can correct that error ;)
