Hi all,
I am new here (about 3 weeks old) and I have decided I would like to dabble in a little fashion design. I read somewhere that folks use Poser to help getting the textures to look right without having to upload to SL everytime they need to see the clothes on an avatar. Is this true. If it is, is there any way to do this with Blender, or another cheap/free program. I would like to get Poser, but I just can't justify it's price tag, least not right now.
If I can use Blender or something else to do this, where do I find the avatar (maniquin, so to speak) to put in it? If this sounds like a dumb question, please forgive me. I haven't ever used anything like Poser.
I do have access to 3DS MAX and Lightwave, if these can be used, but I would rather use Blender if it will work.
Thanks, Branson

Hi. What you're asking for isn't a good task for Blender. You'd needlessly confuse yourself using it for something so simple. However, there is a program called Tattoo that's fairly simple to use. You basically download the avatar mesh templates from the main page, load it up in Tattoo, then load your texture to see how it fits on the model. This can be done in any 3D tool, including Blender, but Tattoo is geared toward this exclusively, as well as "painting onto the model." It's probably your best shot. Oh, and buy a license if you use it often.

Thanks,
I'm checking Tattoo out right now.
I'm still going to look into Blender to see just what it is.

Blender is, in a few words, an advanced 3D creation suite. It does what it sets out to do well, but at the time of this writing, its applications for content in Second Life are fairly minimal. I'm hoping that will change over time, of course.
If you have any questions about Blender, fire them my way. I'm one of the resident Blenderheads on these boards.

I tried Tattoo and it has worked very well so far. Only problem I can find with it is I can't find any way to combine 2 models, so I can't really use it for making skirts. What I'm designing right now is a long coat that will use a skirt for the lower part. I've finished the upper part, but now I am not sure how to go about getting the lower part (the skirt) to match without uploading several times to SL.
Does anyone know if it's possible to download this free Poser 3 anywhere?
I haven't tried Blender yet. If it's nothing more than a 3d Modeler, I'll probably skip it, since I already have 3ds max and Lightwave.
Thanks, Branson
