It's hard to tell from what you said, Nessa. If you don't have mod permission for those clothing items, you won't be able to change the sleeve or pants lengths, but you probably thought of that.....

I don't know how to help, but I suggest you post to Resident Answers and you'll get more people reading about your problem. It sounds like a bug that someone else may have experienced and may have a work-around.

System specs might be useful.
You might try doing Advanced, Character, Characer Tests, and picking make or female. Then do preferences, network, clear cache, and restart SL. You should then have a stock n00b avatar and maybe you will be able to edit your clothes then.
Even though you tried 3 computers, it's possible the computers are similar enough to all have the same problem. Thus system specs are still of possible value in figuring out what the problem is.
Were the 3 computers all on the same network?

Nessa-- This may be a bit late, but I just found your post...This sounds like a problem that many people are having, caused by the later nVidea cards. The clothing textures are showing up beyond the area edited out in the appearance mode sliders, almost like the sliders are stuck on full.
It still isn't fixed, but each time you log on, you can go to the advanced menu> rendering>features>and uncheck palletized textures.
Hope it helps.

Sometimes that happens if I do too many in a row. I close the appearances and begin again and the next time it's fine. Just in case that's all it was, I thought I'd post

This seems to have started happening to me this weekend. I updated to the latest Drivers and noticed hideously swollen ankles (I was supposed to be going to a beach party). Now I've rolled back to the earlier drivers (May I think, don't have the version number). I still have the problem. Shorts appear as socks as well. Long sleeves texture the glove area. No editing of shape removes the swollen ankles. I've cleared cache on both normal and RC viewers, both do it. I don't see it on other people though, just my avie. Very strange. *Edit* Seems it's an NVidia bug http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7957

Reading texturing tutorials I read something about textures saved at 32 bits doing something weird sometimes. Is it possible that trying to use a piece of clothing that had something wrong with it, could do this? Even after taking off the piece of clothing?
I remember one SL update that affected a lot of people that way...for one night. It seemed to affect people in waves. I don't know if any of this might ring a bell and help lend a clue how this happened but just in case. With me on a prior update, clothing wouldn't rez and instead, half my av would be all black and I mean, no details, just a photonegative...When I could finally change clothes, it happened again with one article of freebie clothing.

I've had that happen in SL after two of the updates, then it worked itself out without any action on my part.
I also think sometimes a file is corrupted and things go wrong after putting on a wonky skin or item of clothing.

Glitch Pants and boot foot problem
02-11-2009 05:41
I'm seeing this same problem. Sometimes a certain boot footshape makes me look like I'm wearing colored pantyhose. Then some glitch pants, which are supposed to end above the knee to make a dress look better, go all the way down and cover my feet... once again a pantyhose type look.
I am running a new nvidia video card and I did update the drivers. Clearing cache does not solve this problem.

This is the "Palletized Texture" glitch that has been plaguing SL residents who have NVidia graphics cards (about 2/3 of us) for the past several months. We are told that it will be cleared up with the next major upgrade of the viewer. Meanwhile, to clear it, you have to go to Advanced >> Rendering >> Features >> Palletized Textures and toggle the "X" off (or simply type Ctrl-Alt-F7)) ---- THEN rebake your texture with Advanced >> Character >> Rebake Character (or simply Ctrl-Alt-R). You may find that you have to rebake a few times to let SL know that you mean business. Unfortunately, the cure is not robust. You need to do both steps every time you log in, and sometimes more than once a session if you change clothing. Good luck. Edit: Ooops! I typed the anti-Palletized step incorrectly. FIXED above now. Sorry about that.
