New home for the D&T?

Since LL is closing the forums I have wondered about this one. Anyone have any suggestions where we might find a home? I would like to continue to learn and hopefully help others somewhere.

I am not into the bloodletting you find in many forums. Are any of the resident forums going to focus on the content creation side rather than the gossip side?

The current announcement actually says all the content creation fora, including this one will remain for at least quite a while.

I am, however, looking at getting a server up and running sometime, and if I do would happily set up a D&T forum there if no one beats me to it.

We have the capacity at e-pec.info. If someone is willing to take the reins and get to adding content...

I guess now's as good a time as any to let the cat out of the bag. SLtutorials.com is currently under construction, and will be launched in the coming weeks. It will feature free tutorials on the types of subjects that have always been discussed here (except we'll have pictures and video so everything will be much easier to follow), and yes, there will of course be forums. Also, for those interested in more advanced learning than what's ever been possible here on these forums, SLtutorials.com will have a subscription-based section with higher level content.

I've been back-burner planning this for over a year now, but when LL announced the impending demise of the forums, the thing went from cool idea to absolute must-do.

Stay tuned; I'll be announcing more details at a more appropriate time. For now, I'll just say we've got some top notch instructors onboard, and it's shaping up to be a very exciting educational resource. I'm sure everyone will love it.

As already noted, the content creation forums WILL be around indefinitely as of now. Cant say what will happen in a year but for now we're pretty stable here. But more is always better so I can wait to check out the sites mentioned!

It would be actually nice to have this moved off to the third party forums because it would reduce the amount of forums that I have to look through to find something. Right now most of the other third party forums have something similar to D&T but they're not used often. Things are just too fragmented now.

I like having everything reasonably centralized. It's already hard enough with 20 different websites out there for downloading grid templates.. with 20 different, slightly modified, colour coded versions of the grid templates out there.

I don't want to ALSO have to add a google search to just FIND the 30 different "SL Design" forums and websites out there.. and then register for 30 different accounds for permission to access THEIR forums... before I can even START to search for help on making a bra or whatever.

The forums that were going to close.. have been closed. LL has said that the remaining forums will continue for the foreseeable future.

Can we get back to designing now?

I'll still be checking in here daily to help answer questions and hopefully a lot of the other D&T regulars will also. I'm also looking forward to seeing the new site Chosen is cooking up. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic resource. Hopefully with new forums and sites opening up there'll be more help to go around and not less.

Seconded. I'd just not like to see us all trying to migrate to 3rd party forums. A clearing house for tutorials and templates.. GREAT idea..

Trying to replace what's already working, and easy to find right here... not so great.

Sorry for my snap comment earlier, I'm just a little tired of everyone jumping to the conclusion that all the forums are shutting down, and running like rats from a sinking ship.. with every third person registering an SL_______.com domain name and tossing up a forum. 30,00 forums out there with 3 posts each.. won't help anyone.

Couldn't agree more I think it'll be a while before there's anything out there that could replace the archive here.
