I'm a newer designer of clothing, mostly skirts. I'm having a problem I hope I can get some help with. I am using the defualt templates provided on the web site, because I learned on those. When creating some skirts, they look fine, but when i go to upload them, there is a large gap on one or both sides where the seams should be. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I wanted a lot of money this way, before i realized i could preview it, and now I'm only wasting time. If someone could help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey there :)

I personally highly recommend Chip Midnight's modded-out alternate templates. These things are extra big (you'll have to resize back down to 512x512 before saving your final version), they have colormatch seams so you can always see where things are going to meet up....they're just awesome. 1000X better than the default templates.

If you look down this forum a bit...see that thread with 5 stars and 10 million comments singing Chip's praises? That's the thread where he introduced them.

Good Luck!

As Azazel said, Chip's templates rock, and you should definitely grab them. That having been said, I'm pretty sure I know what you're problem is, and if I'm right, which template you're using will be irrelevant for this particular issue. It sounds to me like there is one or both of two things going on:

1. You're not bleeding your images. That thick border around the template that says "Minimum Bleed Area", make sure the coloring of your skirt extends through it. This will eliminate any gaps between where they two hlaves of the template fit together.

2. Possibly just a misaligned slider or two. Slitting the skirt down the sides, middle, or back is an option in appearance settings. Make sure you have all skirt openings set to zero.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Hi again Azazel :) I tried using these templates, and got a little confused so for now I was sticking with the original ones :) They are VERY good templates though.

Mind posting some pictures of your avatar wearing the skirts? It might help in identifying the problem :)

I think it must have something to do with the bleed areas. I understand how the sliders work, and it's not those. Some of my skirts turn out fine, and the rest have gaps. I'm pretty sure it's the bleed then. I'll just havr to keep experimenting, I guess, until i figure out exactally what I am doing wrong with the bleed. if anyone else has any tips for me, i'd love to hear them. Thanks so much.

Also, just to rule it out...when you first open the default skirt template be sure to delete the alpha channel. It comes with one.
I spent many a day banging my head on the desk until someone mentioned that. :)

Ack! So that was what had been giving me so much grief when I was trying to use the templates. I'll definitely remember to pull the alpha channel from now on. :)

Just wanted to update everyone. My problem was not bleeding the images far enough out. I have now switched from making skirts, to making t-shirts for awhile :) lol.
