A high quality texture place in general would be a great resource to if anyone has a landmark.
I've never had to shop for textures before so I'm a bit new to this. Thanks! These forums are CLOSED. Please visit the new forums HERE

Hello, Does anyone know where I can purchase light and dark wood floor textures? I saw a beautiful, shiny wood floor on naughty island and would like something similar for my house. I've used search both in world and on the slexchange without much result.

If you're looking for a reflective floor, you'll have to do some trickery with alphas and mirror priming.
If you want your floor to just "look" shiny with strategically placed highlights, then you'll have to do some searching around, or create it yourself. _____________________

Textures-R-Us, in the English Rose sim, has tens of thousands of textures for sale, including tons of wood floor sets.
The "shiny" aspect is a setting on the prim properties. This places highlights on the surface that shift as your poit of view shifts. For a "reflective" floor that appears to have a high-gloss shine which actually reflects the surrounding furnishings and walls, that is a building trick. There is no real "reflection" capability in SL that works right. You'll probably notice at that sim you saw that furnishings seem to be reflected in the floor, but an avatar standing on that floor is NOT in the reflection. If that is true, then they have built a duplicate of the room, mirrored vertically, and have it in a hole beneath a mostly transparent floor. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I never have good results with making a large floor "shiny" by setting the prim's shiny levels...it darkens the texture, and sometimes it brings in ambient color which I don't want. And often the highlights are ill-placed.
You might want to find a really nice hi-rez texure, and either bake in the highlights yourself in Photoshop, or you can use alpha shadow/highlight textures on separate prims, placed in strategic locations to simulate light glare. Sorry if that sounds like jibberish. _____________________

Thanks Ceera and Michael. I didn't realize the high gloss shine I saw there was actually a built in duplicate of the room above. That sounds a bit above my current skill set--it also sounds like that might be a very high prim solution. I will have to be satisfied with a nice wood (non-reflective) floor for now.
I've been to a lot of texture shops, but it just seemed that although they had a lot of wood textures, but not specifically a lot of wood floor textures. I'll check out Textures-R-Us again--the ones I am looking for may not have rezzed properly while I was there last night. I suspect that to be the case, since half the store seemed to be missing. lol Thanks again for your help! |

It's actually very simple to set up a faked-reflection--however, it IS a high prim option, and I only recommend it to land owners who can afford those prim counts.

Enchanting. Or maybe it was just the date... And, TRU for sure. Just allow a good chunk of time to look around. There's lots to see! |

Reflective shinyness, bloom, and fake mirror can be something like this in SL, this isnt a edited pic btw, straight from SL
