Hi everyone. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong before I throw Second Life, my PC, and my cat out the window?
I used Nephaline's tutorial to try and make a simple pair of stockings, using Chip's templates. Not a &*)(#$% thing is working the way it's supposed to.
My questions, using Photoshop.
When I cut and paste into new layers, am I starting with a New canvas or using the one from the Template or the fabric?
Why, when I cut the fabric into it's own layer, does it only show up as a tiny spot on the template instead of filling the whole thing the way Neph shows it should?
Why, when I cut and paste the template itself into a new layer, does it zoom in to 300+% so that all I can see is the right hip?
Someone please, please help me. It's making me crazy. Nothing is working!! ;.;

Ok i'll try my best to answer these somewhat odd questions, from what i understood.
"When I cut and paste into new layers, am I starting with a New canvas or using the one from the Template or the fabric?"
-When you paste something into a photoshop project it usualy create a new layer with the same size and proprieties of the original (background/layer0) layer.
"Why, when I cut the fabric into it's own layer, does it only show up as a tiny spot on the template instead of filling the whole thing the way Neph shows it should?"
-I absolutly have no idea what you are asking for.. next time, try not refering to stuff/persons, most people dont know about.
"Why, when I cut and paste the template itself into a new layer, does it zoom in to 300+% so that all I can see is the right hip?"
-you probably are using a different image size, so you arent zoomed in but rather seeing only the part of the template that fits in your (smaller) image. default SL templates are 512x512pixels, and the highly detailed version is twice as large i do believe.
Most easiest thing to do is to work on a new layer in the original .psd file of the template, so that you already have the right image size, proprieties etc. just make sure you "save as" so you dont soil your original .psd.

It sounds like the source image you are using for the fabric is much smaller than the template. That would explain why your socks look small on the template and the template looks huge when pasted into the source image. Try using the default templates available from the downloads page at https://secondlife.com/downloads/templates.php instead of Chip Midnight's, which are 1024 by 1024 pixels instead of the default of 512 x 512. If your fabric is still much too small, you can resize it. ctrl-T then drag on the handles. But if you increase the size much it will come out fuzzy and/or blotchy so find a bigger source image if you can. (or draw the stockings by hand)

Thank you both for your answers and advice on using the .php files and resizing my fabric images..those were exactly the problem. Once I got the .php files and resized the fabric, everything with smoooooth as butter and I am now strutting around SL in my brand new home made stockings. n.n When I get better at clothes designing, remind me that I owe the both of you new outfits.
