Applying a word texture to an oval object?

I built an oval display sign for my shop, but when I try to put my uploaded .png instructions onto it, it fits on the curve instead of flat... completely illegible. Is there a way to override this? I don't want to have to go to a square shop sign :( Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try using the end of a flattened cylinder. Or you can also put an image of an oval sign on a transparent background that you can then put on a square prim.

I hope I understand what your sign looks like .... it's a cylinder that you stretched along one axis (X or Y) to make an oval, flattened on Z, and then turned on its side, right? If that's the case, all you need to do is open your Edit window for the object, go to the Textures tab, and then select the button near the top of the Edit window that says "Select Texture." Click the oval face of your sign and then click the square texture panel and select the texture that has your words on it. The texture will appear on the face you selected. You may need to scale the texture and re-position it so that it looks right on the oval, but it should be there.

If I haven't interpreted your problem correctly, please post a picture of the sign so w have a better idea of what you're dealing with.

Oh, and avoid using a square prim and applying a texture with transparency unless you think it's really necessary. Adding an alpha texture can create "alpha glitch" problems. Since it's easy enough to make a good sign without alpha, I'd avoid the problem.

Well then Rolig,

I also stand corrected. It has been so long since I focused on the pic in the profile that I had remembered them as square. haha.
