Hi, I'm making a new skin and I haven't ever made one before. I've got the upper and lower body templates all right, but I'm having trouble with the face template, especially around the eyes. If it's ok, could someone give me a sample of what they've done, just so I could get an idea how to do it? I promise promise I won't steal your work ^_^ Thanks very much!!

The thing to remember about the eyes on the template is that they're closed. The red lines indicate the edges of the eyelids. Best thing to do is to upload the template and apply it to your face as a tattoo, then take screenshots. Make sure to get one when your av blinks with the eyes closed. That will give you a better idea of what lines correspond to what part of the eye area.

You can look at my demo skin. The textures are Alpha and Mod. You can get a good feel for placement on the face. Go to any Second Skin Design Store. Thay are listed in Places.

Hey, is it necessary to have alpha channels for the face template to show the teeth and tongue? I have PSP 8 and alpha channels are a monster (I'll figure it out though) And thanks, Namsorr, I'll check it out.

It's not neccesary to have Alpha's for skin templates. I use them as a copy protection measure, and to make them tintable.

You need to have an alpha channel for the head texture. The eyelashes depend on there being transparent alpha in the upper right corner of the template. Grab the head template posted in the "free templates" thread. Select the white area outside the head area and make it transparent. Use that as your alpha channel on your head textures. If you don't have an alpha for the head texture then your eyelashes will end up the same color as the upper right corner of your texture.

Not if you drop the eylash alpha down as a solid color into the texture. That is how I make my tinted eyelashes.

Correct. You can put color in the upper right corner if you want to color the lashes, but you need to still have the proper areas transparent if you don't want the eyelash polygons to be a solid horizontal stripe rather than individual vertical stripes... if that makes sense.

True, you will get much thicker eyelashes if you lay a solid color over that area. The SL software uses the "head_alpha.tga" to place a mask on any subsequent layers above it, so you will still see gaps defining the eylashes. The effect is rather harsh, and is better to go with the information that you find in the upper right part of the "head_color.tga" file. Both files are in the SL/Character folder in the SL install.

I'm catching hell with alpha masks and channels and so forth. I use Paint Shop Pro 8.0, which is very different from PSP 7.0. I can configure it so in the program it shows the transparencies, but when I save it and upload in TGA, it still shows up as a white blank (for the eyelashes). If anyone uses PSP 8, can you help me? PS. Thank so much for everyone's input, it's really helped. Wow, everyone is so nice about new folks!! Not that I'm necessarily new, it's just taken me a little while to get into building and texturing and so forth. Since I joined I've sort of been this person who waits for Tuesday payday and buys everything in sight. So when I'm more experienced in the SL ways of the worl, I hope I can give as much as you eexperienced folks have
