Large Body of Prim Water - Texture Help

Greetings,

I'm trying to build a marina over land, maybe 50mx20m, using textured cubes. I'm having some trouble with coming up with convincing water textures for that large an area. My attempts thus far have resulted in visible seams, a goofy tiled look from prim to prim, and water that looks not at all like linden ocean water. Any ideas where I should focus my efforts?

Thanks,
Dazz

If you want the water to animate, you're gonna have seams. Unfortunately there's no way around that since we can't synchronize animations perfectly across multiple prims.

As for making it look like the ocean, that's a tough one. Not everyone sees the ocean the same way. There's a big difference between having Ripple Water turned on and off, and the water's appearance changes pretty drastically throughout the day. If you're not concerned about that, you could simply take an aerial snapshot of the ocean, and turn it into a seamless texture in Photoshop. The results may be recognizable as water, but they won't really be a match for the ocean.

There's not a perfect solution here, I'm afraid.

The pond there is a grid of 12 prims but it could easily be 100. While there are still a hint of seams, it's possible to make a pretty seamless water surface.

Thanks for the link. Its more convincing than anything I've come across so far. Can you maybe give me some details on how you did it? Are your textures for sale?

Thanks

Actually it's my friend Zora Spoonhammer's work. She is preparing a pond kit that will be for sale soon that has the elements to do that water as it is, but if you need it in a pinch you can buy her stream kit via SLExchange and you should be able to manipulate that kit to fit your needs. (the pond caustics are the same as the stream just speed and material settings are altered, eg. the water is more translucent)

Wow that is awesome, I went to the site and jumped right in and there is even a simulated
light and shadow pattern dancing around on the pond floor, impressive!

I would be interested in knowing what particular scripts are involved.
