For creating objects out of prims for be worn as parts of custom avatars or clothes, how do i specify what body part to attach to? When i click on wear for a custom avatar parts made by others, for example, the part "knows" where to go. How do i set that?

Hello Sylvia. When you attach on object to your character, go into your inventory, and right click the object you want to attach. Select "Attach to >" and this will bring up a list of attachment points. Pick the point you wish to use, once you've done this the settings on the object will update on their own and the next time you "wear" the item it will remember it's placement.

When you use the "attach" command, you have your choice of where to put the object. When you use the "wear" command, it attaches to wherever it was last. What you want to do is use "attach" the first time around, set the object where you want it, and then from that point on, always use "wear".

Also, the first time you're almost certainly going to need to adjust the position of the attached item. Once you have it in the right place, detach it, so it returns to inventory. After that, it will remember where it is supposed to go on you.

If you give a copy to someone else, and if their avatar is different enough in shape, they may also need to slightly adjust the position of the item to fit them. But it will start from the position that you left it in before giving them a copy, so it will already be just about right.

Use a posing stand when you position the prim attachment. It makes accurate positioning much easier! There are quite a few free, copyable posing stands available in-world.
