Hi there, Can anybody tell me how i could export an sl texture to my hard drive so that i can put writting on it. for instance company name or logo on wall or carpet.

Also if any one can tell me why prims with scripts like fires and plants, tend to dissappear at certain angles when in front of walls with transperent parts like windows.

Cheers.

Exporting: You must have full perms on the texture - nothing restricted. Then view the texture, and in the File menu select "Save Texture As".

The shift is called the alpha sorting glitch. Read the sticky topic item at the top of the Texture Tips forum on transparency, for a detailed explanation.

Right click the texture in your inventory.
Click "Properties".
Next to the word "Creator" is a name. Next to the name is a button for the creator's profile. Click it.
Check the creator's profile to see if they are online (upper right corner of the profile).
If they are, click the button that says "Send Message" or "Instant Message" or whatever.
Don't just put hello in the message, put "Hello, I would like to download and edit your wall texture XXYYZZ012. Can you send me a copy via e-mail at yournamehere@domain.com?"
Wait for a response.
Any other way of obtaining the texture on your hard drive could be construed as theft.

Chosen has given a lot of good info on the "Alpha Sorting Glitch" here:

Why do sections of images sometimes disappear or seem to change position in SL?

This phenomenon has to do with a glitch common to nearly all 3D applications in what’s known as alpha sorting. It happens in nearly all video games, and even in high end 3D modeling packages costing thousands of dollars. What happens is when two or more 32-bit images are placed so that they intersect or overlap in close proximity, the renderer has trouble determining which one to draw first. As a result, the images can appear to flip-flop their positions in 3D space, to cancel each other out, or to otherwise behave strangely.

The way to cut down on this is to make sure that 32-bit images are only used when absolutely necessary. Images that do not need transparency should always be saved as 24-bit. Beyond that, there are certain building techniques in SL that can minimize the effect, and others that actually take advantage of it, but building is beyond the scope of this guide. There are plenty of tips about this on the building forum.

And if you see anything else written by Chosen Few, please pay attention. Chosen is a GOD when it comes to textures and Photoshop and the like.

...and, lucky for me, Chosen Few lives due East of here, so I can kneel facing Him and Mecca at the same time.
